Today's (and yesterday's) Coping with Dystopia and #USPol is brought to you by "Double Trouble" as we are dog sitting another #GoldenRetriever for a week. Just about every toy has been plucked from the toybox & there is much kerfuffle & competion over the squeaky duck rn. Very entertaining. However, the Old Pug is like, "I can't even with this shit" & has retreated to her office bed (she has 3 beds btw).

Bummed to hear about Marianne Faithful. I preferred her later stuff. Got to see her in that opera. And of course she was perfectly cast as God in Absolutely Fabulous.

Going to a potluck for Lunar New Year tonight. Bringing almond cookies and decided to shape some like snakes for Year of the Snake. First batch came out pretty chonky. 😄

So yesterday's "cope-a-nastics" exercise was painting. Today I got out in the garden. Planted my onion starts & tucked them in with mulch. We'll see how they do. A whole new garden experiment for me. Harvested the last of the spinach. Fall planting was the best crop ever. Did some tidying and pruning. Now having a cup of London Fog and sweet potato fries done in the air fryer. Feeling better and should be able to handle some more news tomorrow.

Forgot to post a link for Sarah Burns. She's on YouTube (link below) but also Patreon, Discord, Instagram and Skillshare.

I like her because she's a good instructor, has a soothing, public-radio voice and seems devoid of the typical internet influencer phoniness.

If learning about gouache, watercolor or plein air painting is your jam, I highly recommend.

I painted this forest scene from a Sarah Burns tutorial yesterday (her original above; mine below). It was a nice break from [waves hands around in the air] and fun to boot. Used a lot of Prussian Blue which I'm starting to really like. Today I'm a bit off, but forging ahead.

How is everybody else out there doing? Are you hanging in there?

One of the fun things about rediscovering my art in my late 50s is how little I ever knew to begin with.

Today I learned that, while it's fine to store brushes upright, the reason you should keep them horizontal while they dry is so bristles don't let water into the ferrule and handle. Which is not good for the brush. The more you know...

Forgot to post pics of Monday's adventure. Richardson Grove was ok. Mostly set up for camping, but we got some nice Eel river time. The water is such a pretty blue-green right now. Went to Standish-Hickey too and The Big Guy got to see the swimming hole he remembers from his childhood. Then we had burgers at The Peg House (so many stickers).
