I'd like to be less tired. I fell off the low carb wagon pretty quickly after a few days, sadly.
Not because of withdrawal, instead habit and routine - I feel like it's almost impossible to eat a different kind of diet than the rest of the family.
Looking forward to the appointment next week.

In case this passed anyone by - I am not really an Apple person but I LOVE this ad:
https://vimeo.com/776811579
This video and the version of it with audio description have both disappeared off YouTube.
If anyone knows of anywhere else I can get hold of the one with audio description, I'd be very thankful!

So I guess the solution is to go further left, more progressive, to help get all those people better access to good resources, and hopefully feel more safe.
But of course they're not voting for that stuff.
I'm glad I'm not a politician, but I'm also frustrated by the system we live in and even if I decided to start to work within it, don't think I could convince people to change their stance. This stuff is hard.

It is also both a rock and a hard place though.
Continue to ignore the growing far-right parties, refuse to work with them, and eventually those that voted for them will get angry and start rising up because they're not being heard. Then what?
Somewhere else I discussed that the real problem comes from people living precariously, fearing for their livelihoods and homes, seeing all the various "thems" as competition who are "stealing" their jobs / paid taxes / housing stock.

In case recent events are freaking people out - air travel is extremely safe. Air travel disasters are tragedies, but thankfully rare.
Worldwide, apart from a couple of spikes, air travel deaths have numbered around 200 per year, with a record low in 2023.
Road travel kills just under 2000 people a year just in the UK, and around 3000 per year in Germany. Roughly ten times that are seriously injured. Around 150 people die in the average hour on the world’s roads.

I just.. can't even. I'm so sorry. I'm also here.
I'm cis, white, hetero, non-disabled and living outside the US - so I'm at the very edge of the circle - you can dump out your stress and frustration in my direction.

Just to reiterate - I can't keep up with the egregious stuff coming out of the US "administration" right now - you're all safe with me.
I feel for you and how I wish this wasn't happening.
The quoted post is about LGBT+/trans people but I also display a disability pride flag despite not (yet) considering myself disabled.
I also stand with all non-white people, those who are native or others trafficked by slavery and colonialism, and everyone else who is marginalised.

This Google translation from the Tagesschau news programme is not bad, if you don't understand German but are interested in the politics and latest events before the upcoming general election:

Amazing point I just read in German on LinkedIn:
Paraphrased translation:
There is zero evidence that people who are AfD sympathisers will at some point have the feeling: "Ah, now there are enough restrictions [on asylum seekers' rights]. I can stop voting for AfD."

...yes, I guess the Overton window moves over because the center/center-right thinks at some point their concessions will satisfy these people, and choke out the far right parties. Nope.

I think I get what @hankgreen meant.
To me personally, the "we thought they would be easy" refers to getting people to have compassion and care about the same things we/I/the left/progressives do - and it's not easy to get everyone to care - but WE care.
