The western crowned pigeon, Mauritius blue pigeon, Buru green pigeon, Madagascar blue pigeon - I had no idea there is such a variety of unusual looking pigeons! And Pauline Knip did wonderful portraits of them in the early 1800's, although it looks like she wasn't exactly aboard in her dealings with Dutch naturalist Coenraad Jacob Temminck who commissioned the artwork from her.

I've got the children to tend

The clothes to mend

The floor to mop

The food to shop

Then the chicken to fry

The baby to dry

I got company to feed

The garden to weed

I've got shirts to press

The tots to dress

The can to be cut

I gotta clean up this hut

Then see about the sick

And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me, sunshine

Rain on me, rain

Fall softly, dewdrops

And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here

With your fiercest wind

Let me float across the sky

'Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes

Cover me with white

Cold icy kisses and

Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky

Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone

Star shine, moon glow

You're all that I can call my own.

It's wonderful to see that Bookshop.org has expanded into e-books which will provide even more support for independent bookshops across the country (US). Set up as a B-corporation five years ago and alternative to Amazon, it allocates 80% of its profits to indies and so far has raised over 35 million dollars for approximately 2,200 participating shops.

Initially they will offer over 3 million titles, and if a title is ordered from a specific store, all profits will go to that store, profits from orders that don't specify a particular shop will be distributed.

"Drinking songs, mostly, but the ‘Marseillaise’ as well, because you could really drink to the ‘Marseillaise’. Trust the French, Bogdan said, to create a marching song that worked with wine." -- from 'Karla's Choice' by Nick Harkaway

To vividly make the natural world available to his visually impaired students, in turn-of-the-20th-century Alsace-Lorraine, Martin Kunz came up with a way of embossing dampened, thick paper with accurate, detailed depictions of plants and animals from around the world to which he added braille descriptions.
