Excited for the upcoming book "The Proof is in the Code", by Kevin Hartnett. This "definitive account of the birth and rise of Lean" will be the first book from @7homaslin's Quantabooks!

Wrapped up the last day of the semester in #Calculus with a topic that never fails to blow my mind: Fourier Series!

Last week I met someone whose company works with high school students to produce "passion projects" that raise their profile for elite college admissions. They charge $100,000 per year.

As usual, my students helped me better understand this. They used the fact that if
[ A = [ u | v ] ]
then
[ AA^T=[u|v] [u|v]^T = uu^T + vv^T]
And since ( u ) and (v ) are orthogonal unit vectors, their outer products must sum to the identity!

What are some nice ways to think about the fact that if the columns of a square matrix are pairwise orthogonal unit vectors, then the rows of the matrix must also be pairwise orthogonal unit vectors?

The college letter-of-recommendation system is so obnoxious. On Friday a terrific student asked me to write them a last minute rec because last year's teachers, who gave him grades of 99 and 100, simply refused to do so.

Last night at a party I presented a copy of "Visual Differential Geometry and Forms" as a gift and the recipient already owned a copy and I have to believe this is the only time in history this has ever happened.

"If you just read Hume, it is easy to see what he is saying. With Kant—not so much."

Rick Beato is a terrific interviewer of musicians, and this with Tommy Emmanuel is wonderful. There's a funny moment where Beato -- rightly in awe of Emmanuel's playing -- says something like "And you did all that without even warming up!" Emmanuel laughs, and responds "I warmed up at 6 this morning!" People like Tommy Emmanuel don't warm up to play guitar. They are always in a state of playing guitar.

Honestly I hope I never again have to read a proof that
[ 1^3 + 2^3 + ... +n^3 = ( 1+ 2+ ... + n )^2 ]

It wasn't easy grading all these induction proofs, but I just kept telling myself that if I could get through this one, I could get through the next one.

In a foreign country I saw Plain Doritos on a grocery store shelf. They're just tortilla chips. That's all they've been, this whole time.

I just turned off the WNBA Finals game because the officiating is so bad. Looks like they've caught up to the NBA!

I've been re-watching the (truly outstanding) Rick Beato interviews with the members of the Police, and one thing that bothered me the first time around was how Stewart Copeland kept referring to Sting as "Stingo". It was only today I learned that "Stingo" is actually String's preferred nickname for use by those closest to him. To be sure, Copeland says it with a little extra oomph, the residue of a long contentious artistic and personal relationship, but I was very happy to find out it wasn't intentionally derisive.

Just saw Sting in concert. 73 years old, fronting a three-piece rock band, walked on stage and immediately belted Message in a Bottle. Played non-stop for two hours. Incredible. And the Brooklyn Paramount Theater is beautiful!
