Thinking about what @johnonolan just said about collaborations, in theory you could publish a Offer(Collaboration) where the Collaboration object contains a bit of a description about what Actor1 wants to collaborate on with Actor2

I wonder what #Postmarks would be like if it added a weekly/monthly newsletter option?

Though, you'd probably also want some editorial content with that?

@andypiper what's this matrix room you're mentioning?

Edit: found it, from the join public room modal, where it says "Show: Matrix Rooms (matrix.org) 🔽" menu, click "add server" and then type in fosdem.org and you'll see all the rooms

TIL: @developers uses MariaDB, wonder if they'll stick with that given MariaDB being bought by that private equity firm?

So here's a weird one for you fedi: my forehead has no temperature (36,7c / 98f) but my temples are burning hot (37,8c / 100f), the only other symptom I've had is a lot of mucus production.

Okay, FOSDEM trip all cancelled. It's a shame, but I just wasn't well enough to make the trip.

I've had elevated anxiety levels for 2 weeks and it's left me really not doing great. I'm easily fatigued and just generally not feeling great.

I think I need to cancel my trip to #fosdem, my body just isn't behaving this week & my cough has been inducing anxiety attacks and near vomiting. I was optimistic that maybe just maybe I'd be able to do this, but I don't think I can.

Just did a test of new failover configuration in @hachyderm’s network, and everything went smoothly: the traffic was correctly rerouted to the other instances.

What a fantastic quote:

We’re not becoming 10x developers with AI.
We’re becoming 10x dependent on AI. There’s a difference.
Every time we let AI solve a problem we could’ve solved ourselves, we’re trading long-term understanding for short-term productivity. We’re optimizing for today’s commit at the cost of tomorrow’s ability.

Huang also claims he's "lowered the barrier to knowledge, to understanding” and that's really not the case.

Watching Cloe Abrams interview with the NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, and he has this whole line about “You should learn how to interact with AI […] and learn how to use AI to better do our work”

He tries to compare it to "learning how to better use computers to do our work”, and there's a fatal flaw in that largely: computers in the 1990s and 2000s wouldn't be expected to spit out random made up garbage: you store a value in a excel file, and you expect the next time you open that file you get that value back.

He continues: “It's easier to prompt ChatGPT to ask it anything you like, than to go do the research yourself”

And if he doesn't see how fundamentally bad that is, I don't see how he'll continue to see success. His company is literally built on people doing the research. Yet he's advocating for some great dumbening where people don't learn how to research and find information and judge it's accuracy and quality.
