A poster highlighting our main research this year. Taking a few steps towards low-cost AI.
The most exciting research is to scale up variational (Bayesian) methods to GPT-2.
We also did some work on model-merging, which I believe will change federated and continual learning.
I truly believe that we can train AI models cheaply and safely (without needing nuclear power plants, or stealing everybody's data). Working towards making demos that will change minds.
Looking forward to 2025.

Didn’t think to hear about Knowledge distillation as the cause of market crash. 😂

"It doesn't feel right to be training on people's data and then competing with them in the marketplace," Balaji told the AP in late October. "I don't think you should be able to do that. I don't think you are able to do that”

If this is not enough, there is more bad news coming and we will continue to see worse for years to come. It’s like a really long sinking scene of the Titanic.

“One key for the future is how societies manage new technologies such as AI.
"AI could go either way," he said. "AI could either empower people with a lot of education, make them more highly skilled, enable them to do more tasks and get more pay. Or it could be another massive wave of automation that pushes the remnants of the middle down to the bottom. And then, yes, you're not going to like the political outcomes.''”

We have two open post-doc positions. You dont' have to be a Bayesian but somebody who is interested to work with at the intersection of DL, Bayes, and optimization.

Call for papers for AISTATS 2025 is out now
http://aistats.org/aistats2025/call-for-papers.html
You can also (self-)nominate for reviewer/AC position
https://forms.gle/saediFoTznTQ7heC6
We are (trying to) switch to OpenReview so submission details will be available a bit later.
One major change is that the author list at the abstract submission deadline will be considered final, and no changes in authorship will be allowed. This is to avoid new unforeseen COI after the bidding.
