With the impending possible shutdown of#TikTok - I'm curious about the #digitalpreservation community's thoughts. A little googling shows that it isn't easy for TikTok users to download their own content in bulk (sounds like you can download them individually) from within the app.

Or is there actually plenty of time for preservation because the platform isn't going anywhere - just access to install the app for those who don't have it?

I found an old notebook and was reminded that Yahoo Pipes existed! Anyone else remember that awesome little utility? It was a web-interface that let you pull web content, RSS feeds, and other data sources together- and then filter and combine them into something new. I wonder if there is something like this that still exists.

I did just find this collection on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/govdatabackup described as "Archives of all publicly accessible files and data within Government websites downloaded in the days following the 1/20/17 inauguration. With this archive, we hope to preserve any public data that might be at risk with the new administration."

But this doesn't appear to include dedicated environmental data sets. More hunting to do!

Are there new #DataRescue events aiming to archive #USGovernment

I attended #datarescueDC back in 2017 https://datarefuge.github.io/datarescue-dc/ & managed to find a blog post about the 2017 event on the #waybackmachine https://web.archive.org/web/20170224053456/https://thehoya.com/university-hosts-federal-climate-data-rescue-event/

Anyone know if https://www.datarefugestories.org/ is still active?

Looking for bookmark manager recommendations.

Have one you love?

Fine with a fee, especially for a service that seems stable & gives me a way to export.

Also fine with "roll your own" open source options I could install just for myself.

Also looking for "stay away from this" warnings.

Please boost!

This weekend sent me home with a friend's stack of 5.25" floppies to try and rescue files off of. Time to dig back through what I figured out back in 2011: https://www.spellboundblog.com/2011/07/25/rescuing-5-25-floppy-disks-from-oblivion/

The PC from 2011 is long gone - but I still have the FC5025 controller (somewhere!). I now have a Windows 11 laptop and an iMac. Not sure the 5.25" drive I used back down is still functional. I was excited to find this resource - but a little daunted to figure out my best next steps http://zenodo.org/records/13828372
