Btw. the #ESAEuclid image of the #HorseheadNebula in all of its non-festive glory is available in full resolution from #ESA:

[#]ESA has published a 'Sonification' of #ESAEuclid's image of the Messier 78 star forming region. Sound from an image of the Universe - how does that work?

Here are explanation and sonified image: https://www.esa.int/ESA_Multimedia/Videos/2024/12/Cosmic_jingles_listen_to_Euclid_s_image_of_M78

And don't be fooled by the page showing "81% completed" right now. Each object needs a certain number of classifications before it is completed. The team wants to make sure that as many galaxies get fully done as possible, and not tens of 1000 receiving just one or two classifications.

More batches will be added!

[#]ESAEuclid's first public search project for strong gravitational lenses is now also officially live at 'Space Warps – ESA Euclid'. Anyone can contribute! We're aiming at classifying 100,000 galaxies in this project.

A few months ago #ESAEuclid made it into #LaSettimanaEnigmistica (https://www.lasettimanaenigmistica.com), a famous and long-running italian puzzle journal. #Euclid's development was indeed fuelled by coffee - but as a difference to the #InternationalSpaceStation our satellite does not have its own #espresso machine.

As far as we know.

We are amazed, #ESAEuclid's video showcasing and zooming into the first large skypatch has already been viewed 1.2 million times! In only 3 weeks. We can understand, we are totally fascinated by our #Euclid data, but we are very happy that so many people seem to share this 😀

Another pointer to our latest blog post: How do raw images of the sky by #ESAEuclid actually look like?

Spoiler: not quite as the final products after proper data treatment!

How do raw images of the sky by #ESAEuclid actually look like? No, not as polished as the ones #ESA published last week. They are individual images, with lots of image artefacts, and hits by cosmic rays.

We talk a bit about the background and show an illustrative video of how #Euclid sees the sky: https://www.euclid-ec.org/what-euclid-really-sees-in-the-sky

[#]ESAEuclid has already observed 10x as much sky area since the beginning of the survey 9 months ago. All these data are being processed and combined with ground-based data.

The first science data release to the public - 53 deg² to start with - will take place in March 2024. Soon!

To give you a glimpse into the vast image data that #ESAEuclid is observing in its surveys, #ESA published a new set of images: a section of 2 weeks of observations, 132 deg² on the sky, that's 500x the area of the Moon, and zoom-ins.

Check out the images in our Euclid Blog, where you can also find a link to ESA's full release with high-res images and all explanations and background.
