I'd announced I was going to. Some family were sorry, but not one had the thought that maybe they shouldn't be there either. That family comms should maybe not happen in a place that some aren't safe to be in.
I think they think I'm making a principled stand.

i would tend to return the Optional if it was direct and not in a Future. But in the context of returning a Future it feels excessively clunky maybe?

here's a #java style question.
// completed with null if not found
CompletableFuture findObject();
// completed exceptionally if not found
CompletableFuture findObject();
// empty Optional if not found
CompletableFuture<Optional> findObject();
they'd all work so this is about style. which would be preferred?
the middle one is odd-one-out as it semantically says it's an error if the object can't be found rather than that being allowable.

@Tuba seeing some bad graphics glitching with this new update (0.9.0). This is flatpak aarch64 build on Asahii fedora 41 (so wayland). Effect is flickery, affected by pointer movement. Screenshot can capture but not easy to coordinate (Mac has no print-scrn key!) hence actual photo. Never observed on previous version. Photo doesn’t show but it sometimes does affect UI elements eg: in sidebar, not just content area.

so they’re floating #trump running for a third term on the theory that 22nd amndmnt forbids 3 consecutive terms.
if he does that, the obvious person to run against him is Barack Obama (still 17 years younger). there's no argument that could allow trump to do it that doesn’t also allow Obama to.
it won't happen: trump won't be alive in four years, and if he is, 25th amndmnt will probably have been triggered.
but just making that counter-threat ought to shut it down.

if the Dems win, and win the capability to reform voting (again) and don't do it (again), may they never be forgiven.

hm. gnome-disks was told to format a drive with the GUID partition table type, and it told me it did. and it still says it did. so i thought it was odd it didn't have a UUID and i have to set hdparm.conf stuff using /dev/sda.
it's MBR. according to any source other than gnome-disks. and it's now at the end of a 36 hour rsync to restore the data so i'm not changing it again.
it doesn't really matter. I'm just disappointed in gnome disks.

hmph. ubuntu 24.04 on my intel iMac, on the occasion of a routine kernel upgrade, has decided it no longer does bluetooth. wired gear comes back out of the box...

sad at having finished a book in an afternoon. problem with ebooks, you don't get an immediate physical sense of how long, or short, it is; you have to pay attention to, and interpret numbers. (also, price is no guide, nor probably should it be.)
