This might be a stupid question, but what speaks against integrating #tippecanoe by @felt into #QGIS or even #gdal ?

Foursquare released a dataset with 100m+ points of interest. https://location.foursquare.com/products/places/
IMO the Foursquare OS places dataset is barely usable. I just checked the closest pois and ALL were wrong, either outdated for a long time or simply wrong. "Judenherberge" instead of "Jugendherberge", come on...

There is a lot of public geospatial data provided as opendata which is not readily available via API.
I am wondering if there is anything like a public European data infrastructure which allows to host such data in a modern, standardized way to make it easily accessible for everyone at scale (cloud native data formats, STAC catalog, ...)?
Especially I am thinking about lidar data and derived products (DSM, DTM) and a solution similar to opentopography.org.

Results for the 4th German National Forest Inventory have just been released. A poster I created some years ago gives a rough idea of the effort involved.

openfreemap.org is providing OSM vector tiles for free, which is pretty nice.
But for Germany we also have official cadastral data as free vector tiles + 5m terrain data and LOD2 buildings by https://basemap.de.
This is a great project where federal authorities actually work together and use an open source software stack.
And rumors are that they will extend styles (topographic) and data (worldwide osm, national orthophotos) in the coming months.

lasR, a new software for working with large lidar datasets, developed by the author of the lidR package, one of the most dedicated and experienced developers in this field I know. It is free, open source and very fast. Currently there is an R API with others possibly coming in the future.
