Market near Mason, 1951

A sweet shot northeast on Market toward the Ferry Building. Too much here to mention, enjoy it. The Esquire (with the Harlem Globetrotters movie) & Telenews (all newsreels) along with the Douglas Building would be torn down 15 years later. #sfhistory

I know you're dying to know where this is. It's 10th Avenue & California, the end of the then 1-Westwood Park bus line. Found by unrivaled transit expert Jack Tillmany. I confirmed it with the 1938 aerial view, complete with a bus parked in front of the tree!

Motor Coach Location Stumper, 1948

I have 11 shots of buses in this spot, but have had no luck identifying it. None of the shots identify the line, I'm hoping one of you recognizes it. I've only posted these 2 because together they give the greatest context of the spot. I assume it's the north side of the street and the bus facing west. (I know it's 1948 by the various advertisements on the buses plus the billboards)

Interested in the PPIE, the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915 held in what would become San Francisco's Marina District? I have a rather worn set of the definitive 5 volume history available. HMU here for the Mastodon discount. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/clt/d/san-francisco-panama/7821372116.html #sfhistory

Geneva Avenue, 1941

I have hundreds of streetcar scrapping shots taken by Robert McFarland, there are many and they are repetitive, but I still try to describe and map them accurately.

I struggled with this one of car 1716 in front of the United Railroads / Market Street Railway company house. Glad to say I figured it out today with help from the SFMTA archive and Library of Congress Sanborn Maps.

Where my first car died. My friend drove it straight into post, even with the steering wheel which popped out 12inches and severed the connection to the steering. We had a truck and were in the process of towing off the post when the police showed up. The people living in the house on right… now with a mustache… called them, I can’t blame, it looked bad. Because I was uncooperative, I ended up spending the night in the drunk tank at Mission Station (the old one near 23rd Street) with a bunch of other unfortunates. One large Pacific Islander whose advances I had to rebuff and one cholo who unlaced his shoes because they had taken his belt. I asked him if he was going hang himself, he told me he was going to hang me. He didn’t. When I finally got out, I walked 3 blocks in the wrong direction from home in Noe Valley. There’s more but suffice to say it was a memorable night, that I thankfully never repeated

Lake Merritt, Oakland, a girl posed at Goosey Goosey Gander's castle.

I found this (& more from this family) dumped in a bin. My goal is to save stories before this happens. Send me slides, negs, photos, etc you don't know what to do with #sfhistory

RIP my 2010 Faves, 3 of 4 commercial businesses listed are closed for good. Who's next for my icy touch of death? (There's still plenty here you can see and do.) #SanFrancisco

Santa's Village, 1957

I remember TV ads but Highway 17 in Scotts Valley was just too far to go from San Bruno & I don't think I ever made it here. It existed from 1957 to 1979. Christmas is coming, so this seems appropriate. not quite #sfhistory

Embarcadero near Market, 1963

Three women, a Volkswagen Beetle, and the Embarcadero Freeway outside the Ferry Building

I have to say that I absolutely appreciate the people who would use their film on something nobody else would. #sfhistory

Irving near 25th Ave, 1951

Sunset Super was brand new, built in 1950. This is one of my favorites from a set of 660 1951 negatives discarded by the Assessor's Department & hidden away by a collector for 25 years. #sfhistory (they've since been donated back to SFPL)
