This year is the year! After log4shell hit, I started again with #Java and #OpenSource related public talks. I want to take this more seriously now and plan to travel through Germany and visit JUGs or conferences. Usually, I travel at my own expense to attend community talks. Feel free to get in touch.

Das Buch wird derzeit kostenfrei zur Verfügung gestellt. Ich habe es noch nicht gelesen, aber vielleicht seid ihr ja schneller:

I grew up without books. No stories. No beautiful words. No education. At 16, I started to learn, and my now-wife, at 20, gave me her books. Today, at 46, it still hurts to look back. I am angry. My road was hard, far too hard. No one should have to walk on it.

If you don’t know the facts, you’re forced to believe.

When you’re forced to think, anyone can claim the truth.

And when you can’t tell the truth from lies, fear takes over.

Science is the antidote to fear. It’s not always what you want to hear, but it’s the way forward.

For two long years, I studied #writing, and I practiced it too. After all this time, I might not be a better writer, but I have learned that good writers are. While #AI reflects the average of us all, good writers transcend every limit.

Finally, I will write for a print magazine again! I just received confirmation that my proposal about #Java logging was accepted. Looking forward to seeing it in the Javapro magazine; it has been a while since I last published for print. :-) https://javapro.io/

It sounds stupid, but I am slowly beginning to understand how to write sequentially. Took me more than a year of practice. Writing is hard.

Like in previous years, the idea of a safe space is my promise and commitment for 2025. Loud voices may dominate the media, but be assured: countless others accept you as you are. Enough people reflect and practice acceptance and introspection—not just me.

I slowly understand that my life is only about building bridges. What bridges will you build in 2025?

Science and learning are the bridges that connect us; nobody needs phrases that build walls. Yelling belongs to the darkest corners of history, not our shared future. A safe space is the foundation of bridges that take us beyond rivers and seas once thought impassable.

I have seen young people grow in safe spaces beyond themselves and do things they didn't believe they could. Free from the burden of differences, they learn faster, better, and with greater joy.

For my mental health, I usually refrain from commenting on politics. Today, I feel compelled to break this rule and speak out. In Germany, history revisionists yell their devoid phrases from the chancel, echoed by those who struggle with recent politics and are afraid of the future. Some tech companies explicitly allow their users to call others "mentally ill" who live differently. My voice may not stop the cruel rhetoric that hurt my friends and colleagues from minority communities.

I want to make one thing very clear:

No matter where you come from, what kind of community you are part of, or what your beliefs are, you are welcome in my training and team.

The moment you enter my classroom, you are entering a safe place where everyone is accepted as they are. You may ask all your questions and learn with the rest of us as a part of us, not as a minority. Share your thoughts, and live your curiosity!

For the past weeks, I have been studying #Cicero, among others. His work resonates deeply with me. My writing changed not only because of style but also because I learned to write as a human. No #AI will ever write what a great writer can write as long as it cannot replicate the depths of humanity.

The feeling when you made your Rasperry blink the first time in your life… I have to admit, without the VS Codf extension I would have been lost. Step by step…

I will never understand how a Dockerfile works before I go on vacation, and it will suddenly break when I return. This is not a docker problem; I think the dependency management in Ruby and JS causes the problems.

I found out I can use the Mona client to post to #pixelfed. Joys of federation. Why should I bother with the official client (which felt very slow to me when I first tried)? #mastodon

Populism is a short-term reaction to fear and change. Giving young people access to education and science should reduce fear and explain change as natural progress.

A proper response from a Canadian politician to Trump. Not only content is brilliant, but her way of telling is too. I could not tell if she is working in TV or in politics. https://www.thefreepress.ca/local-news/green-party-leader-elizabeth-may-takes-aim-at-trump-in-viral-speech-7747154 (video)

Spent the past year working with @pkarwasz on #Log4j. What started as patches turned into deep dives into #SBOM, VEX, and securing supply chains.

In 2025, we’re building a small #Maven-based tool to help #Java devs write more secure software. No big funding—just two folks in the trenches trying to get it right.

Let’s talk if your company’s digging into SBOM or #OpenSource #security. We’re happy to share insights or lend a hand!

[#]Raunächte is over. This was an experiment I always wanted to do. Do you have any feedback for me, or does this annoy you? Let me know. I enjoyed it, personally. It's a lot of work, though, if you didn't like these posts, let me know.
