It's going to be tough to push back on this onslaught, isn't it? We will need robust distributed defensible PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA over the coming years.

As the corporations and the corporate adjacent coopt all the historic buzzwords like 'open', 'free' and 'distributed', and trick people into believing their corporate traps are the answer to media manipulation, it would be good to have a term that they can not steal.

Not for profit PUBLIC SOCIAL MEDIA is our only safe haven.

Looking for something to do tomorrow?

How about, turn off the TV, ignore the news, skip social media.

Get outside. Maybe go to a beach or take a walk in the woods. Listen to the wind. Feel the sun.

It's a amazing planet we all live on. The problems will still be there on Tuesday, but perhaps it's a good time to appreciate just being here.

Maybe a suggestion. If you want to post TikTok videos here, in addition to whatever other descriptions you use, why not put a #tiktok in the post text. 🤷

They can then be found using search term:

If you don't want any porn:

Maybe you've heard about Bluesky's popular Starter Packs. Well, we don't have this capability, but here is a way to follow entire lists of accounts. Not quite as convenient 🤷, but you can import packs of accounts, and add them directly into lists!

The reports are coming in from all over the Fediverse. While pixelfed.social is understandably working to accommodate the huge influx of new users, other Pixelfed instances are operating just like normal.

Pixelfed is a great picture sharing app that is currently experiencing explosive growth. People are saying, it reminds them of the early days of Instagram before it was enshittified.

6. Sucking money and attention from public social media. We are at a critical moment. As a result of the election, the public has become aware of the power of billionaires to shape opinion. We have a moment in time to help move people onto public platforms which are truly defensible. Bluesky is another corporate trap, where people are not safe from the same thing that has happened in previous cycles of enshittification.

Bluesky represents itself as owned by Jay Graber and the employees, when it reality it is owned by a who's who of Silicon Valley VC's and crypto entities like Blockchain Capital. They are about to close a new funding round led by Bain Capital expected to value the company at $700M. What about all of this makes this the place to invest public money to escape billionaires?

4. Have not been able to locate any documentation on this foundation other than the splashy, but thin, website. What is the legal structure? Who are the officers? Any financials? Is there any specific mission statement? Implementation plan? Where does the money donated go? Who/what is it spent on? Etc.
