I'd quote examples, but I don't want to name and shame (or risk inflaming anybody myself)...

Where did this thing of getting angry at people for making unhelpful replies come from? I've only seen it here.
Seems to me easy enough to just ignore unhelpful answers. I'm not sure punishing them with a rant will really help, and I think most replies I've seen ranted at are quite possibly sent in good faith, likely misreadings of the question or the responder just being less experienced than the asker but doing their best.
Not sure why some people get all angry and ranty about them 🤷

Just look at the source of https://www.forms.service.gov.uk/ - see all those huge class names dwarfing every element's opening tag. All completely unnecessary, and just making it horrible to work with, and meaning the CSS and the HTML are completely coupled together. You can't try this CSS on some other site or vice versa; if you apply that CSS to a HTML page without class attributes it just looks like a completely unstyled HTML page.
Whyyy all this unnecessary complexity and coupling?

I have recently been forced to do some HTML/CSS work and, oh my god, they went and ruined HTML while I wasn't looking.
I now quite strongly believe the "class" attribute was a mistake and needs to be deprecated ASAP, and I'm not entirely sure they "style" attribute and element (eg, HTML authors getting to specify their own CSS, rather than CSS being something the user chooses in their browser to meet their accessibility needs / fit in with their desktop theme) are a good idea at all.

@simon I vaguely recall that as part of, or adjacent to, Fire Eagle Yahoo had a public database of "places" (in a very broad sense), where places could be parts of other places forming a kind of overlapping hierarchy all the way up to nations and down to districts of towns, and places had links to neighbouring places too. I dimly remember browsing this data... Does that ring a bell? If so, do you know what happened to it? Or how it was built? Any recollections gratefully received. Thanks!

I had to fabricate my own tools to tighten these bloody annoying screws INSIDE the bracket. Shortened a hex drive bit so it fits in, then customised a spanner so it can drive a hex bit (which seems to be no standard metric or imperial spanner size), then a spare butter knife with a slightly concave handle used to apply pressure from behind the bit (pressed down by one hand on each side of the knife, while I turn the spanner with spare fingers - alas I cannot take a photo to demonstrate).

I done a shelf! Three more are sanded and finished, two of which have the brackets mounted so far, still to go until my wife's exotic mug collection can be tamed.

Put up a gate! Didn't bring a big spanner to fine tune the hinges, though, so it doesn't meet in the middle properly yet.

I need a new android smartphone, mine's dying. Given that I need to run appstore apps for no-open-alternative stuff like banking and controlling bluetooth gadgets and so on, what's the least enshittified spyware-ridden open option? I hear talk of #fairphone and #pinephone and stuff, but what are they like in practice and can I still run Play Store apps? I'm a complete newbie in this area...

I'm experimenting with using denote.el to re-organise some of my personal info that's become a bit of an unstructured pile; it's a tool for managing things in less structured ways and hits a (for me) sweet spot. https://protesilaos.com/emacs/denote #emacs #denote

I found a snapshot of my old 1990s-era web page! A nostalgic blast from the past - but it also contained a mirror of a friend's web site, taken as her hosting was going to expire because she'd died 😢

Seems I'm fine today! I was really sleepy the day after previous jabs. I wonder if that means I had plenty of antibodies from last time so my immune system was all "Yeah I got this, bro"? Just a sore arm for me this morning (I had both on my left). How are you today, @ianbetteridge ?
