How on earth can this demo be from 1974? Star Wars came out three years later and the only CG it includes is a wireframe Death Star. (via camwing)

I've just spent an hour watching videos of Megatron at Universal Studios; I don't understand how he's animated and how the actor is crammed (or stretched) inside, there's no clear explanation online, only theories even though the suit has existed for several years, and how has it existed for several years but I'm only finding out now 😡🤯😡

Wait, there was (and is) a 5-hour trial of Veilguard available to all Game Pass subscribers? Oops, maybe should have communicated a bit more about that, no?

And why would you put a membership requirement on a fucking demo in the first place 🤦

I usually hate pages that hijack scrolling but this is remarkably well done — it scrolls better than many of Apple's hero pages. I'd love to know how they achieved that, but the site's a mess of half-obfuscated node files 😒 https://vis.social/@florin/113911544594237426

And now this is all too adorable. Love how true-to-scale the physics look. I'll never have the time to drive all these trucks (though I do have a whole bunch of audiobooks waiting for me to listen because I've only remembered yesterday that they're a thing.)

Ooh, and it seems someone played Expeditions and thought they could do better, which should be very achievable. Looks lovely, and Art of Rally had pretty good physics, so it should be fun.

OMG repairing roads in RoadCraft isn't scripted, you lay your own tarmac and you're free to dump hundreds of tons of sand to fill up any gap you like 😍

I swore off Dropbox a long time ago (can't even remember what was the trigger) but can you imagine a worse way to sunset an E2EE vault than "oh we're just gonna turn off encryption and start syncing the files normally"? 🤡 https://mastodon.social/@rodhilton/113907169372483999

I was idly wondering if anyone had worked on an OS where each app runs in its own VM (instead of trying to secure a multitasking OS that was designed decades ago when bad actors were the exception, not the norm) and found Qubes OS, which looks remarkably well thought out, and can even integrate Windows apps. Anyone played with it? The captions on this page explain the broad strokes.

WTF, there's supposed to be a post before this one but it's… eaten by the API? I can see it on the web, but not in-app when I look at my own profile — and it's not displayed on the web from another server 🙃🙃🙃

Now that I’ve checked on other devices, I can’t get the effect quite as clear on any other screen: the number of… spokes? is directly proportional to the scrolling speed.

Edit: ah, yes, of course it doesn't handle compression very well.

Why does the moiré effect on the thumbnail change depending on the speed at which I scroll past this post? 😳 Is this normal or some iPad mini 6 weirdness? https://mastodon.art/@flockaroo/113896504410682552

I absolutely need one of these next to my monitor, dedicated to my to-do list. (No, I don't need 60fps for that, but I do need the absence of a distracting full-screen refresh. Besides, smooth scrolling and zero latency while typing are worth something.)

Also, JFC: "The password reset functionality did ask for answers to two security questions, but they found that those answers were checked with code that ran locally in a user's browser, not on Subaru's server, allowing the safeguard to be easily bypassed."

Isn't it funny what happens when the entire tech industry thinks web development is a joke best left to interns and ChatGPT.

I can't imagine that the industry as a whole is gonna stop putting cars on the internet, but you've got to wonder when a small brand is gonna break ranks and market their models specifically on being offline. Or would the authorities prevent them outright from removing such a useful source of data?
