More evidence space is jiggly!

Pulsars are incredibly precise time keepers. They’re as heavy as stars and spinning, so changing their rotation rate isn’t something that happens quickly, unless something cosmic intervenes.

If they do change their periods temporarily, that’s evidence for gravitational waves rattling around our cosmos, stretching or shortening the signals we receive from them. If you watch enough pulsars for long enough, we can turn our entire galaxy into one big gravitational wave detector!

Which, naturally, people have done. The MeerKAT Pulsar Timing Array team has announced evidence for this “Gravitational Wave Background”. This supports results from other teams announced last year.

Decided now was the right time to get an iPad Air M2. The 11” size is perfect for reading PDFs and zooms are instantaneous. I didn’t expect to want to write on it, but I’m finding taking notes and doing mathematics on it to be surprisingly pleasant. Mostly because of the instant response. Now if it could just do something about my penmanship…

I eventually made peace with people who want their code to look like angry fruit salad. But this new trend of changing sizes and colors is a bridge too far.

I spent a couple years immersed in energy efficiency projects for businesses. The pitch was always tied to concrete outcomes, such as their bill being predictable. I learned incentives work.

My To Be Read [TBR] pile keeps growing. For those who have a lot of PDFs and books for reference and reading, do you prefer an e-paper device such as a Remarkable or Boox, or a tablet like an iPad? I don't do a lot of writing on devices, if that helps.
