If, like me, you have awakened to subzero temperatures and want to warm up, may I suggest listening to this great little album by Bob Marley and the Wailers: The Capitol Session ‘73, Live? The mix of reggae beats and what one reviewer called “ragged and cool; pensive and disarming; harmonious and percussive; stoic and hazy; militant and colorful; ambitious and unassuming.” Warms me right up.

Do you know what you’re missing out on if you don’t take the opportunity to write alt text for your images? Well, then, you obviously haven’t been reading @nocontexttrek’s alt tags! Let theirs be an inspiration for you to boldly type what’s never been typed before.

Joe Henderson, resting his sax on his leg and looking cool during the break.

This hold is a little more comfortable/normal-looking than others. Still looks like the musician is holding a pet or something

Here’s another. Speaking from experience, this is not the most comfortable way to hold a saxophone in your lap.

Starting a new #jazz #AlbumCover thread here of a subtype I didn’t know existed until a few days ago: Saxophonists Holding Saxophones. This is the first one I noticed.

In the class of album covers that is “saxophonists holding their saxophone” this one stands out for its simplicity and excellent use of typography, also keeping the letterforms inside the musician’s profile. #jazz #graphicdesign

This one has some nice energy. Note the non-parallel spacing between the edge of the photo and the baseline of the text above it. #jazz #graphicdesign

This has most of the Blue Note design elements: overlaid colors, bold typography, high contrast, graphic imagery. They’ve done a nice job of carrying their founding aesthetic forward through the decades.

Lee Morgan’s covers are nearly all amazing. Blame Blue Note for that. #jazz #graphicdesign

I noticed that the co-founder of my alma mater, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Paula Wallace, is getting a Presidential Citizens Medal. If people knew just what she put faculty, staff, and especially students through back in the ‘90s I’m pretty sure she’d be in prison, not at the White House.
