It is a little odd to walk into the Denver airport to see it almost entirely deserted and an odd ambient cover of Somewhere Only We Know playing. One of the few benefits of being up a 4am I guess.

Congrats to everyone at Boom for having the first civilian-designed aircraft to go supersonic in over two decades today. Really hope they can get this turned into a full passenger aircraft.

Plus, I uploaded all the model files if anyone feels like printing their own, on both Printables (https://www.printables.com/model/1165926-ax540-hexacopter-frame) and Maker World (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1034757#profileId-1018251)!

Finally got part three of my multirotor build up, where it somehow does almost too well on its first test flight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2bVZqzB0dc

Finally got my entirely 3D printed hexacopter frame working yesterday, and it flies surprisingly well! Even in -15C/5F! Proper video coming soon, but here's a few clips of it flying.

Despite the awfulness happening, I am going to mostly keep posting fun, weird slices of joy because it's important to me that every feed isn't all doom.
But let me be clear: I stand with my trans friends, with my fellow immigrants, for reproductive rights, and with every persecuted minority.

Hey, some good news on the jury summons front at least. Now to revert that day to the PTO it originally was... (I don't know how they always manage to send me a summons for days when I've already scheduled time off)

Looking to resuscitate a project I last touched in 2013 and wow, this is Python 2 code. Going to be a little while.

The AGDQ run of Crazy Taxi with a live backing band is absolutely incredible stuff, especially as they stop and restart whenever the runner fails and restarts a level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4AomNJHzHk

Have been asked for "two truths and a lie" as an icebreaker for an event tonight, and now I'm sitting here wondering how implausible I go with the truths. Watched Apollo 13 in an old Nazi sea fort? Built a hovercraft? Couriered a payphone through London and exchanged it for a dome? Had dinner with the Queen?

Week two of going to the climbing gym and I successfully got all the way up a 5.8! It's been a few hours and I can almost use my arms again!

Got back on a climbing wall for the first time in a decade today (with a goal of going a couple times a week). My arms are now noodles, but I'm happy (and reminded how friendly everyone always is at climbing gyms!)

Finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle today and that is a very good game, and easily beats at least two of the five movies (maybe even three). Love a game that is mostly about exploration and lets you just ignore ever using a gun.

Big fan of the recently-available-in-the-US Covid + Flu A/B lateral flow tests - even more peace of mind after returning from international travel. Now if they'd just do one that had a few other things as well...

It just seems wrong to me that you can just switch an inductor on and off thousands of times a second, put it through a diode into a capacitor, and trick electricity into being a higher voltage.

I do love the internet sometimes. Idly wondered how on earth DC boost converters work (and why they didn't in Edison's time), found some great explainers, saw that it involved inductance shoving into capacitance, and decided it was magic after all.

I have a strong memory of the South Kensington Museums tunnel being the longest tunnel on earth when I was little - now it's just a few minutes' walk, though I still enjoy it nonetheless.

Nice to be back in London for a few days. Not quite used to how early it gets dark though, I've lived at a lower latitude for too long now!

Got to love the UA pursers sometimes. "Winds are good tonight and we're going to try to push back one minute before British Airways and have a bit of a race".
