Had my optician's appointment and while my prescription has changed a little, the optometrist also says my eye pressure is a little high which might be causing it. So I'm going to have an actual hospital appointment to check more... stuff? soon. Apparently it's just eye drops to sort it out so nothing too scary.

I asked if there were any lifestyle factors that could affect it, and there aren't, so at least that's something.

Carol, to this day I do not know my 6s, 7s, and 8s. You have failed me, Carol.

Carol Vorderman's Pop Music Times Tables came out in 1991 (on VHS!) and yet some of the melodies still jump into my head from time to time.

Not the lyrics, though. God forbid any earworms be useful 😂

Just refreshing my browser window multiple times to coax my word processor into putting the I-beam vaguely near to the actual cursor position. 2025 in computing.

Over the weekend I went to see #WakeTheTiger in Bristol with family. It was a really well-executed immersive world, based loosely around the concept of a factory that's been overtaken by alien flora and turned into an anarchist commune. The huge set reminded me a little bit of Punchdrunk's immersive theatre (I saw The Burnt City a couple of years ago) but much more surreal. Would recommend! https://www.wakethetiger.com

[#]DreamLog I was at a formal event where it was announced that lunch would be in the form of a list of cryptic crossword style clues. My heart sank because I was hungry and not great at those. Each menu item needed to be found using a clue and then named using another clue. You could only eat it if you had solved both.

I solved the first location but, looking at this meagre half sandwich, couldn't work out the name clue and someone else got there first. I later gave up and sat quietly in hunger.

Various "insomnia clubs" (various people mostly based around the fact they couldn't sleep) decided to group up to disrupt the annual fascist government parade and turn it into a protest at the time the state live broadcast was supposed to show a supplicant and supportive public.

We didn't manage to stage our protest because the forces pushed us back into the buildings we'd sprung from, but it did mean there was nobody at all in the streets, so the government cancelled the broadcast.

A lucky escape locking up my bike for life drawing this evening as the twenty-year-old key decided now was the time to nearly snap as I locked it up.

Fortunately I was able to unlock the bike because my current lock is one of those "you will need an angle grinder to break into this" (though I do have a friend who does recreational lockpicking...)

If anyone has a recommendation for a similarly hardy bike lock (I don't like D locks) feel free to name it

You can type the start of words to select them, so I've been kinda hiding them from my vision, but then you have to contend with "I" always picking "I am" in a choice of "I" and "I am", and you have to know Duo's particular choice of words, like it prefers "a lot" to "much"

I really wish I could turn off the clickable word selection in Duolingo altogether and just use a textbox. There's an option to do it sometimes, but teaching me a language by recognition is so much less valuable than by recall.

Got around to researching and booking a haircut with a curly hair stylist in a few weeks' time!

I still feel like a slight impostor booking in with curly hair specialists, but on the other hand, the last regular hairdresser I went to—one I was recommended by a straight-hair friend, no less (no aspersions on her)—turned my hair into a frizzy mess for a few days until the curly girl routine I use kicked back in, so I think it's worth putting up with the discomfort.

I'd recently started working at a beach side café on a tropical island and got into trouble for eating the mozzarella balls that seemed customary for people to leave as tips, because I didn't know we were supposed to pool them for all staff. However once I got the hang of that I was invited over after work for group pizza

Very proud of my friends for pursuing this with the media. More people need to know the appalling way that their GP practice (and no doubt others across the country) are treating trans folk.
