Just received my Raspberry Pi Debug Probe (https://www.kubii.com/en/raspberry-pi-boards/3988-raspberry-pi-debug-probe-5056561803265.html) which I ordered from Kubii.

Not only this was cheaper and faster than ordering through Amazon, but my order was also prepared by workers with disabilities.

A great store to buy your favorite Raspberry Pi and electronic gear!

I will host a "FOSS apps on Android BoF" on Sunday morning at FOSDEM.

"While on the GNU/Linux desktop, people can rely on mostly Free and Open Source applications, that's less the case on Android, which is still teeming with applications that serve other interests than ours. Let's share our experience trying to replace as many proprietary applications as possible with FOSS ones. This can be a very rewarding journey and we are not so far from something the masses can use!"

My talk proposal "How to test the latest mainline Linux kernel or bootloader?" has been accepted at the upcoming OpenEmbedded workshop on Feb. 3 in Brussels, right after FOSDEM.

Here's the schedule so far with my abstract and other interesting talks:

Happy to participate to the AlpOSS conference on February 20 in Échirolles near Grenoble, France.

I will explain how to compile and boot a specific version of the Linux kernel on your usual desktop or server distribution. I'm lucky to have the best spot in the agenda, right after a good ☕ break!

The talk will be in French but my slides will be in English. I also plan to make a video in English after the conference.

Please let me know if you're going too!

I recently switched to the Zsh shell to enable a very good looking and handy prompt: https://rootcommit.com/2024/oh-my-zsh-improve-your-shell-experience/

The switch was painless, as everything else continued to run just as before.

Are there any other Zsh enthusiasts on this network? If you are one of them, what are your favorite plugins and themes?

Radio Libre a Vous !

Émission no 227 : Informatique embarquée et logiciels libres

The slides for my "Free and Open Source Applications for Android" presentation at Capitole du Libre are available at https://rootcommit.com/pub/conferences/2024/cdl/foss-apps-android/index.html

I had very useful suggestions and comments from the audience, making a V1.1 necessary in the next days. If I also take your future comments into account, a video in English corresponding to this presentation will be released too.

Thank you in advance for your future comments and suggestions.

As promised to some of you in person, here's my review of the "Make it stick" book from Peter C. Brown, Henry L. Roediger III and Mark A. McDaniel.

I strongly recommend this book to teachers, trainers, coaches and to all learners. My gratitude to Michael Estner who suggested this book to me.

Here is the programming model of Root Commit:

  1. Learn about new embedded Linux resources and contribute to Open Source projects, gaining technical experience.

  1. Share the experience through technical articles, conference presentations and videos, making our skills visible.

  1. Thanks to such visibility, gain training and consulting customers, providing funding for getting back to 1.
