I'm searching Makertube and have an awful feeling its only searching the server I'm on and not all of Makertube and not all of Peertube? I'm getting no results. Find it hard to believe no one has uploaded a workout to the whole of Peertube! But no results mean its no alternative to Youtube, kinda like Mastodon often yields no results.

Even though I'm a game dev its a sad thing that any time I search the internet for 'coop' it thinks I'm asking about gaming, despite the history of co-operation in Britain dating back to before 1800. Thankfully we have Wikipedia that people are donating towards to protect information from certain counter-factual forces.

Whether its my ADD or my old age a whole year is usually over in literally one blink of one eye. Google must take some credit, therefore, in their bullshit adverts on Youtube being the longest, interminable, agonising minutes. Toothache might seem to last longer but actually I couldn't even swear to that.

I've just had another listen and I must surely be able to do something with them. They sound good in their own right. Maybe some kind of indie rock songs.

For some reason I was killing time in Hull one day around 1996. I dropped into a games store of sorts and had a go on a demo game and console. I suspect it was a PS1 and the game is best recalled as a sort of over-the-shoulder 3rd person version of the arcade classic, Commando. But can I recall clearly or find anything like it since? No.

I've had the Ludwig Vistalite kit from XLN for some years now but don't think I've used it on any project and I continue to struggle making it fit anything. Reading up they're only known because of Bonham who didn't use them long. I've looked for other acrylic players of other brands and there's hardly anyone. I do like looking at them though LOL. I don't know if I fell for some XLN hype or if they have obvious uses. XLN claim they're for 'glam rock'. #musicproduction #Drums

All these 'job creators' we're supposed to not tax and we allow to corrupt our governments. They sure do love doing layoffs!

Did I read that right? Petter Olsen, Norwegian businessman, former billionaire. His estate went bankrupt in October 2024.
A billionaire went bankrupt? I mean I'm bad with money but not that bad.

Some games industry news lately announced that a dev that has never released a game is delaying their first and unreleased game because they don't have a publisher. I found myself wondering - how on earth is this news?

My comment on Youtube that a game dev should try harder not to be lured by ChatGPT was met by responses such as "That's a ridiculous standard to hold someone to." I might have replied that its sort of a bare minimum 'standard' really, but life is too short for debates with those hypnotised by techbro bullshit.

The thing about prejudiced, unconscionable, bigoted, reactionary, hypocritical, amoral, psychopathic, corrupt, fascist, genocidal scumbags is you shouldn't allow them to run society, culture, business nor government and certainly never elect them. But obviously I'm some kind of old-fashioned, idealist dreamer.

My attempts at forward-planning bring me to the realisation that I will be making some retro games. So, to put me in the ball park I'm reading up on the tech of the time. Learning about 'the Amiga' now. Back around 1994 a guy at uni had some kind of Amiga in his digs and it was astonishing - in that it ran Prince of Persia, Desert Strike and either Canon Fodder or Worms or both.

In parts of the world the real 1984 wasn't as bad as Orwell predicted and a utopia by today's standards. "A woman is loaned a ZX Spectrum from a library in the Netherlands, 1984."

I'm pretty sure every one of them is saying "pass in" very frequently and none of them are saying "parse". But of course parsing has a lot to do with language and programming so I've been trying to keep an open mind and it hurts!

Frankly its this - there was a lot of raving about tile mapping in Godot 4 and I was thinking it must be great - that's if I ever needed it. Maybe its to do with the games I'm thinking I will or won't make? I've no clue.

Here's why I still don't understand tile maps. It used to be a way to make a background that used less memory? Maybe its a way to build some visuals quickly? But even in the 80s, say, adventure games had backgrounds that were more like paintings, arguably the entire background being one sprite? Newer metroidvanias like Dust or Hollow Knight or a game like Cuphead don't appear to be tilemapped nor do they want to be? What am I missing?
