I feel like I'm missing out on the "big tech rebel" experience of leaking company information. So, here's my leak from inside Octopus, where I've worked for the past 3 years. Read it now before it gets deleted. It's all true!

They ruined work. They ruined games.

Poorly Designed Rewards Crush Improvement Efforts

The industry tried to gamify the workplace to make it more engaging. But have you noticed that we've ended up making games more like work instead?

I know folks are concerned about map providers updating the names of wet places and high places, but "political views" over maps have always pleased the overlords... borders move, seas change their name, and entire countries are renamed or disappear entirely depending on which "political view" you are being served.

This isn't really a reflection of the map providers, but of governments.

I wonder if some folks just love being able to tell a thing what to do with zero pushback. You can order it around, and it only ever agrees with you. You can command, and it obeys. Not like a pesky human with all its knowledge, experience, and boundaries.

Sociotechnical Innovation #1

Your alarm isn't based on time. Instead, it wakes you when it hits 200w solar generation.

I should still be in bed right now.

What else could we do to make technology serve humans?

Psychometric testing came up. Afterwards someone asked me what I didn't like about it. I hadn't said anything, but they said my expression gave it away!

Now I think I should have said what I was thinking.

My face is too honest and my mouth is too polite.
