Unsurprisingly, there's content from lots of different Fediverse platforms. Here we see some posts from 'ActivityPub' (?) and Pixelfed.

I really like how they use icons to identify the platform/source of the post, along with a popup tool tip.

Mastodon should consider something similar. I suspect there are users here that don't realize some of the content comes from outside of Masto.

I don't know my way around yet, but there's a few different 'feeds' that show content, even to me, a brand new user with zero followers.

Curiously, most of the content looks like it originates from Mastodon.

OK Mastodon/Fediverse friends. Lets talk about Friendica.

I created an account just to 'look around'. I haven't been on Facebook since 2011, so I don't know what it looks like anymore. But Friendica does have a FB 'feel' -- at least as far as my memory holds.

More Things I Learned: there's a built-in "Screenshot" GUI app for those that find the keyboard shortcuts unintuitive.

Things I Learned: you can save a screen shot to file via the PrtSc (Print Screen) keyboard key.

Hold down the Control key (CTRL + PrtSc) to copy the screen image to the clipboard.

Headline: This is the world's highest capacity UHS-II SD card

Me: Advances in storage capacity/density are really impressive. My first computer (Commodore 64) had "storage" measured in megabytes (5¼ floppies).

Changing corporate culture can feel like a no-win situation. It drains my enthusiasm. Sometimes it's enough to make me want to leave.

But I've scored some victories over the last year and they're finally coming to fruition.

For database schema changes, we have a process in place where folks submit tickets for proposed changes, they get reviewed by me, and then deployed by a second DBA.

This has been a long time coming. It's taken years, in fact. But it's happening. 😀

I still use Windows for work. 🤮

Similarly, I was also using MS Edge, because the last time I tried using Firefox, it didn't work...and Slack told me they won't support anything but Chrome and Edge.

MS just had a boner-ific wet dream and updated Edge with a bunch of AI crap. I refuse to use it.

Good times.

Wonderful. More unwanted AI intrusion.

It appears (for now) I can leave the feature off. But what if another meeting attendee turns it on? Everything I say gets recorded against my wishes.

And I think it's safe to assume Google is using all of this data for various LLM training.

Damn, I wish my employer would ditch Google. ☹

I was reminded of the time Al Franken exposed Betsy DeVos (also during a confirmation hearing if I remember correctly).

I know Bernie Sanders isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I hope folks appreciate him after seeing him grill the anti-vax nincompoop.

I finally saw my otter friend again, with camera in hand, and with my 'longest' telephoto lens. 😀

I kept creeping closer and closer until it appeared to notice me. Then it slinked into the lake and gave me a few more looks as it swam around.

Headline: Quitting Google

From: Me

Periodic Reminder: Google is not your friend. They're everything that's wrong with surveillance capitalism.

And now they're bending their knee to the Mango Mussolini.

I quit Google and I don't miss it at all. That's not bravado or bluster--I've quit other tech platforms/things that came with some sense of loss. Not with Google, though. They offer nothing I want that I can't get elsewhere.

It's funny. I was just discussing this with my wife a day or two ago. Windows usually has a 'Setup.exe' or a *.msi file that you can double click. My wife says Apple has something similar.

Now I know the equivalent for Linux (or maybe just the Debian distros).

Anyway, I found an article listing some recommended FTP clients. The image for the CrossFTP GUI looks appealing, so I chose that one.

I expected to find the usual command line commands for the installation. But for this one, the steps are to download the *.deb file first.

With the Cinnamon desktop, I see I can double-click the *.deb file and install from the GUI. This is a breath of fresh air.

Working on a blog post--this is the first time I've used my Linux laptop for this task. I couldn't find an FTP client built in with Debian. (I'm a little surprised there isn't one. Is it there and I don't see it? 😕 )

Does anyone recognize this image or know of a way to identify the author? I'm considering using it in a blog post and I'd like to provide attribution.
