I liked this quick vid with examples of where Sumerian base-60 counting has persisted in modern systems of measurement. Also explains the etymology of “minutes” and “seconds”.

In the Kneecap movie, set in Belfast, they casually snuck in a slice of Orbital’s track ‘Belfast’ with zero comment. It worked in the moment but also was like a little Easter egg.

I made a tiny change to my site which I think makes it more useful: I split “releases” into “albums and EPs” vs “compilations and remixes”, to make it possible to view all my releases vs songs on other people’s releases.

https://nonwrestler.com

On one hand any change seems pretty unjustifiable given the traffic, but so long as I’m having fun that’s enough.

Dear phone, I actually want to write “thoughts” way more often than “thighs”.

So many near misses along the lines of “thanks for sharing these nice thighs”

One of the nicer clips from #DavidLynch I’ve seen in the last few days. Only about 2 minutes.

The point about dropping it is that the frame or whatever is bent in the relevant corner, so that’s definitely the reason the button has gone wonky.

Other context is I just installed Linux dual boot last night and had it in my head I was going to spend a bunch of time in the next week confirming I can make music on it etc. So I had this strong expectation of using the laptop heaps in the coming days.

Ugh I dropped my laptop when travelling and last night when I went to hard reboot it for reasons the power button got physically stuck in a way that I now can’t turn it on.

Way to make me realise how much time I’m on my laptop, universe. 😝

When I saw this week’s #JukeboxFridayNight theme I immediately heard PJ Harvey singing “And there was trouble / Taking place”

My mnemonic for how to format links in markdown has really worked for me. Repeating just in case you need it and find it works.

People before technology.

People need subtitles.

i.e.

The text people see goes before the hyperlink.

Put that text in square brackets like subtitles of sound fx, e.g. [angry noises] etc.

label text

Might be that the process of coming up with this is actually why I remember the syntax easily now! :)

More torturous a genAI analogy, but how about an app that invents then solves a Wordle puzzle, giving you just the sharing screen that you can show to others?

Ha. Suno AI’s CEO asserts that there’s all these people who don’t currently get the incredible joy of making music, that would get it by typing prompts into a piece of software.

The commentary in the article is pretty calm and to the point, frankly. #Musodon

Waiting in the hectic Los Cabos airport, Baja California Sur, MX. This region has been an eye opener - the two towns almost all tourists go to are like Bali or Denarau for folks down under. Everything in English. Everything in US dollars. The “downtown” basically just food; tequila; souvenirs; and pharmacies selling cut price viagra, ozempic, tramadol.

La Paz a few hours away still certainly caters to foreign tourists but was a highlight of the trip in terms of its niceness!
