Quick review of the Brennenstuhl PM231 energy meter.
For the first year or so it seemed to work but it started to misbehave quite quickly. Reported energy consumption was higher than I expected, because it reported higher voltage from the mains than was actually the case (it claimed over 270 V when the voltage was actually 225 V) resulting in the calculated Watts and kWH also being incorrect. I could roughly compensate for that, so I did. But then it started reporting power consumption of a few W when there was nothing plugged into it at all so it became useless for low energy devices. Finally, the always too dim and too small display recently decided to report that voltage, current, power and power factor are all zero (0). That's if it boots up at all - mostly it just sits there with all segments on.
A useless product. Don't buy one. Brennenstuhl won't fix it. Yes it's out of guarantee, but these things are used occasionally and it started going wrong a long time ago. I drilled out ridiculous three sided security screws in their products. Nothing obviously broken.
I might use the case for a DIY product as I can fit a relay in there.

I just replaced the air filter in our home made complete house air filtration system.
The old filter is on the left, the new one on the right. In four months of absorbing all smoke from our neighbours' fires, firework fumes and dust from motor traffic the filter has gone from being white and translucent to dark and opaque.
Unless we open windows or doors, all the air entering our home comes through this HEPA filter. It removes a lot of the particulates as well as the smell of smoke that sometimes lingers outside. As a result, we definitely have more healthy air in our home now than we did before I build the air filtration system.
There are details of the system here:

We just watched the documentary "Mothers of the Revolution" (its on hbo at least where we live). An excellent reminder of the power of protest, lots of images which I remember from the time of the Greenham Common protests and @jhembrow recognized some faces.

I'd like to make a donation to the Hind Rajab Foundation. They're amazing people doing wonderful work to fight genocide.
Unfortunately, their website only gives one option for donations and that's through "stripe.com", which skims off " 1.5% + €0.25" and gives it to its shareholders, who include Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, and a huge list of other highly unpleasant individuals who definitely do not share the aims of the foundation.
Do I by any chance have a contact here who knows how to find the IBAN of the foundation (in some verifiable way) so I can make a donation without also funding the worst people on the planet ?
Before you ask, I've already used the contact form to send the same question.

More photos from today showing some of the very rural paths that we used, a very unusual railway crossing (they nearly all have controls these days, but not this one on a line used only by restored steam trains) and a very pretty tree.

A few photos from today's recreational Assenliggers bike ride. In total I rode 81 km today, it was a bit warmer than last week. The sun even came out for a bit.
There were four of us today, @TheoZw (who led us this week), @twilwel, Gert and myself.

I could really do with a break from this damp and misty weather. It's not especially cold right now, around freezing point, but it's somehow piercing. A cold that you feel despite a decent jacket.
Anyway, more parcels of bike parts began their journeys to customers with a ride on my bike today. Sadly I've decided to stop accepting orders from the USA until we know what's going on with the wild man and his tariffs. When the UK changed its rules for imports it ended up costing me a lot of money (due to parcels sent early enough that they shouldn't have been affected not being delivered and instead being returned broken many months later) and I don't want to risk repeating that experience with the US.

We had freezing fog for today's group ride. Everything looked a bit magical with the ice on trees.

And of course there's been recreational cycling as well. This trip was out into a village to buy bread for lunch. The velomobile means I stay warm despite the less than lovely weather. Fog makes everything look a bit magical.

Parcel deliveries this week. We've had a lot of fog this week. Freezing fog, even, as it's been below zero a lot of the time. Not especially nice weather to be out and about, tbh, but there you are. Anyway, it's safe for me to continue to cycle with my parcels of bicycle parts because the cycle-paths keep the cars away from me.

How wonderful it is to see the huge amount of attention that the world's journalists are giving to the fires in California, what dedication it takes to fly over there from all over the world so that they can see the result of climate change for themselves, without even a sniff of self reflection...

With Facebook currently in the news again, it's perhaps worth pointing out that I left the platform 11 years ago because they were already generating fake replies to fake posts, presumably in an attempt to increase engagement with ads. I got rid of my account and blocked facebook URLs and IP addresses on my router so that I cannot accidentally engage with any of their stuff at all.
That is of course not the only thing which was bad about Facebook. By 2016 they were working to undermine democracy.
So there's nothing actually knew about the harm they're causing now. It's been obvious for more than a decade which direction they were heading in. But I'm happy that there's more awareness now.
So, have you all deleted your facebook / instagram and whatsapp accounts already ? If not, why not ? Meta, just like Twitter, has been a nazi bar for some time now.

Oh, and one more photo.
We stopped for a moment next to this bench which had been graffiti which read "Fuck de Randstad".
I guess some people from the Northern provinces (this was in Groningen) dislike the part of the country where most Dutch people live enough to bother to make graffiti about it...

Photos from last Sunday's recreational ride with @twilwel and @TheoZw (+ one more).
At 65 km, it was far from being one of our longer rides, but the weather was sort of mixed. It was sunny but also cold, especially when we stopped to eat lunch at a particularly chilly picnic bench made of stone, and the sun seemed to be on its way down earlier than we expected.

A couple of photos from earlier this week when I went out for an extra ride for exercise. This maintenance vehicle went no faster than 33 km/h, but it was impossible to overtake it safely because there was always someone coming in the opposite direction, or a blind corner, or a junction... So I followed it for a while before it turned off in a different direction.
Luckily, this one is electrically powered so there was no stinky exhaust. If it was one of the older models I'd have found a different route instead of breathing all the fumes.
