Actually, the other day, someone in front of me in a line was going into the translation business, for live interpretation, which is most certainly yet another language level task that "AI" will likely never be able to do. And the best part is that most models' job is literally do to something with all the language they have been trained with, so the failure to do well is a great sign for its eventual demise.

Another thing folks keep telling me is how me going into voice acting is futile because "that industry will be eaten up by AI".
Have you seen what's currently around? Does it impress you when actually used for its marketed purpose, or are you impressed by marketing and AI-slop jokes such as AI-generated podcasts on YouTube? These are different things, and you only have so many available voices, many trained on often stolen material (there is legal precedent for voice imitation being copyright infringement in the U.S.), you would have reused in different media until you hit the "TikTok Text-to-Speech voice" phenomenon.
In comparison, there are so, so many real voice actors out there. So many voices to choose from and, since this is what AI is also about, actually pay money to. You will sometimes recognize a voice actor in different media, but this never causes the "TikTok Text-to-Speech voice" effect in people.

Some folks consider translation a "dead job" because language workers are slowly being replaced by AI. However, this shit is noticable from the outside, and I don't know how long this bubble can keep up before inevitably bursting and the demand for language workers will suddenly be high again.

Translating things in context, and taking into account cultural or lingual differences is something a machine can barely ever do properly.
