Any other mastodon.social users noticing their feeds not updating? Not getting 500s or anything. Just an attempt to load and Ivory acts like there are no new posts.
I guess asking this on Mastodon is a little futile.

ProTip: If you use a tool like Geekbot to do daily standups over Slack, I know it's tempting to ask a series of questions but I strongly recommend you ask exactly one.
If you ask more than one, there's a 99% chance that your team members with ADHD will inevitably answer part of the questions and then get side quested and eventually Friday will come and they'll realize they never fully completed a Geekbot standup all week despite best efforts.

Disappointing news. I’ve been an enthusiastic Bambu Lab customer and if you asked me 2 weeks ago what my next printer would be I would have said it’d almost certainly be another Bambu Lab printer.
Bambu massively miscalculated how passively its users would take this news.
Their customers aren’t casual consumers; they’re makers that inherently value tinkering and using their preferred tools.
If you’re a Bambu customer I encourage you to bug them about this!

@siracusa was just listening to ATP and upon hearing the name for your app I immediately recognized you might have legal troubles not from Star Wars, but from healthcare software company Epic (not to be confused with Epic Games): their client software is called Hyperspace.
I suspect your software’s different enough and you’re obscure enough to stay under their radar.
But also they’re a software company called Epic so maybe they don’t have a leg to stand on there!

The fun thing about standing desks is that they will immediately tell you whether you have a cord snagged on something, but they do it in the most exciting and high-stress way.
Also they'll very quickly detect whether your desk slid so that your desk top is wedged under a shelf or other item hanging on your wall.

UX ProTip: if you're going to truncate text in your UI and add a “see more" button to reveal the rest of the text, when the user clicks/touches that button, NONE OF THE EXISTING TEXT SHOULD MOVE.
It should be possible to just keep reading without missing a beat.
If you can't handle that, then don't try being cutesy by truncating the text in some misguided effort to make things visually cleaner.
It's so annoying to try to hunt for where the text left off before after it's un-truncated.

The paperless obsessive 2010 version of me would cringe to hear this but a paper to do list can be a great tool!
Paper’s so good at being tangible (something digital to do apps suck at since everything is a dynamic view). It’s so good for immediate tasks.
I lean into each based on their strengths.
OmniFocus, for instance, is good at doing computer-y things like remembering that I need to pay estimated taxes next September but hiding that until it’s actually relevant.

I feel like this tension is going to grow in Rails between DHH who sees it as his own project that he made and has carte blanche over, and the larger Rails community who have massive businesses built on Rails and need decisionmaking based on consensus.
And Rails is DHH's baby; i get not wanting to let go of control of it, but it's obviously bigger than just one person now and handing over control to a wider group is so clearly the right thing, but he just won’t.

PSA: if a Gmail account is your main email account you use for all your logins, go into your account settings now and make sure you do everything possible to make account recovery easier.
Also, if you ever get a phone call saying it's from Google about suspicious activity, it's not. Google doesn't call people; at best they'll nonchalantly email you that someone might be stealing your account.
A friend last night got hacked and had a ton of $$$ swiftly stolen.

I’m a little bummed about this transition in part because @mindnode Next completely does away with files.
I understand why files make live collaboration harder but as a mostly solo editor of mind maps who likes owning and managing the mind map files, this has me pouring one out.
It prompted me to write https://icanthascheezburger.com/wordpress/2024/03/files-are-underrated/ earlier this year.
I hope that MindNode Next regains the ability to save and open files on the file system at some point. https://mastodon.social/@mindnode/113527128640572483

Mastodon isn't losing anything just because Bluesky is gaining users.
It doesn’t need to adopt the eat the world VC mindset most tech companies have.
If you like the people you're following on Mastodon and it brings you joy and it's able to sustain itself, that's absolutely okay! Even if other networks have 1000x the users.
Mastodon's need to improve comes from the fact that its own users want more from it, not because it needs to chase growth.

@ivory you have a filter setting for boosts only. that's not super handy to me, but the ability to hide boosts would be incredible. Any chance you could ever add that?

Are you going to be at #RubyConf this week?
Feel free to say hi and we can be #RubyFriends!
I made a bunch of these Ruby gem fidget toys to share with people because I’m very shy in person and I thought these would make a fun flimsy pretext to talk to me.

I want to see a podcast player that chooses violence and uses crowdsourcing to detect and edit out dynamically inserted ads from podcasts.
I have just one podcast I listen to that does this and it is the fucking worst.
If you make a podcast player and your guilty conscience keeps you from doing this, just use AI to summarize the dynamically inserted ads and stick it on the show notes with links to the audio so listeners still can see them.
Please, someone, do this!

@siracusa in the last episode of ATP you were talking about sayings in open source and you used the term “euphemism” and then corrected yourself with “saying”.
I’m sure it occurred to you immediately after you stopped recording but in case it didn’t, I bet you were thinking of “aphorism”!

@mactanaka humble Play Premium feature suggestion: can premium users get a cloud sync backend that the share sheets all push shared content to so that i can share things to Play and have them be guaranteed to appear in my Play apps even if I haven’t opened the app on the device I shared it from recently?
I constantly open Play to find videos that never got added, then I have to remember where I shared them from and open that app.

@ivory on macOS I'm noticing a notification badge on my icon, but no actual notifications in any of my accounts. I assume maybe related to wave of Mastodon spam this week, but is there a way I can make the badge clear out?
Tried disabling and reenabling badges and I'm pretty sure this has persisted between reboots.
