13yo wanted to record music from the keyboard; but my rig only had guitar & mic into the computer, so I rewired it and now hopefully it'll record everything; but it will also put effects meant to guitar on the left channel and effects for vocals on the right channel, so hopefully he keeps it set to the default pedalboard or things will get real weird .... not even sure it will actually capture the recordings - but it did in the previous configuration and SSHing in everything seems to be working as expected...

Do I know anyone in #Pittsburgh with a CH341A programmer, a SOIC8 Clip, and a 1.8V Adapter who has the chutzpah to come over and help me flash a bios?

Musk/DOGE Cronies taking control of the US Government's Human Resources Database has made every government employee a potential target of far-right terrorism. This sort of data has been used by other people for nefarious means, and history seems to be echoing louder than any other time in my life - so today I'm once again reminded of

Rene Carmille, history's first known computer hacker.

"Much of the Vichy bureaucracy, including the operation of the death camps, was automated with punch-card computers. However, the Nazis didn't understand the technology's potential vulnerabilities..."

Here's a brief look at their story:

I hear-tell that if Lenovo's magic bios-restoring button doesn't work you can put the BIOS on a blank flash drive and load it that way... Has anyone actually done this? It'd be nice to get my old laptop working...

Installed MobMuPlat on my phone because I'm playing with PureData again, and it's reminding me how much Android's Filesystem is an enigma.

It seems to me that more and more "Community" means a bit of farmland purchased by a construction company where they build a few cul de sacs and set up an HOA and maybe a Community Clubhouse for them to meet at.

Hey Dad, think of a color

Purple

Ok, think of an emotion.

Embarrassment

No, think of another one

Anger.

Ok. This is the emoji you were thinking of...

I didn't know we were supposed to be thinking of an emoji.

Well, you were.

So, uh, yeah.... Turns out every nation has some sort of "National Security" apparatus that is interested in invading people's privacy, and if those nations just so happen to have laws protecting their own citizens privacy they also have partnerships with other nations and share national security information... So there's not really a whole lot of privacy on going around in general, not enough to call out just one country as the unfair snooper, they all snoop... Nevermind all the private businesses snooping and their various contracts with various governments... Just, like, please stop acting surprised or offended at the sheer hypocrisy of international relations; diplomacy and respect for human rights are sorely lacking at home where you can do something about it -- what's the utility of fear mongering about foreign adversaries behaving the same way you do? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

aaand being an amateur musician/recording geek; I feel like there's something that can be done with microphones & EQing to reduce the muddy/mumble of the reader -- listening at 50% volume is a lot easier to understand than 40% volume -- it's like I'm missing some information that was lost in the recording process and can get it back by abusing my speakers...

listening to audiobooks with undiagnosed auditory processing issues -- and they're just mumbling -- I had to put on subtitles/captions -- sometimes they start speaking in German or Spanish or talking backwards like in Lynch's Red Room -- but when I watch the subtitles it's all just plain English ...

Finally replaced the Air Compressor that my Brother-in-law decided to inherit, but between seeing the price online, checking it on the shelf, and ringing out the sale "ended" which required 30 minutes and 2 separate people making trips to and from the aisle to the checkout to get the right price... But now we can finally stop planning our trips around which gas station has free air... Then when the snow melts I can find the 3 replacement tires to get the wheel barrow and hand trolly back in working order

Wifey came home with 4 bags of wood, apparently half off at $6 a bag which fills up our rack and should probably last another 4 days, so maybe we got a weeks worth of wood and maybe the groundhog will be nice and give us an early spring

I moved my space heater to the other side of the room while setting up the music rig over the weekend. It wasn't getting me warm but heating the air directly above my head while I was sitting at my desk -- like I'm cold unless I stand up -- not good since today is actually below 0 (F) outside... so I bit the bullet and climbed under my desk - got my head a little stuck between the back of the desk the floor and the wall knocking off my glasses - but now I have a heater pointed at me and making me warm and happy ..

(I also found the blacklight flashlight/keychain thingy for curing JB Weld Superweld down there, with the bonus that it makes all my glow-in-the-dark stars light up instantly)

PPS: if I get one more wall of storage cleared up I can try using the built-in/wall-mounted electric heaters back here (glorified space-heaters), but they probably haven't been turned on in at least 15 years
