Story Source: The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network, or "CoCoRaHS," is now active in Kentucky and Indiana. CoCoRaHS is a public network of trained volunteers who measure rain, snow, and hail and post their reports at a free website: http://www.cocorahs.org[1]. CoCoRaHS is funded by the National Science Foundation, and is strongly supported by the National Weather Service. Currently there are about one hundred observers across central Kentucky and southern Indiana, and we hope to have many more as the program continues to grow. Volunteers’ reports are listed at the CoCoRaHS website in tabular form as well as being plotted on maps. The precipitation maps make it easy to compare rainfall, snowfall, and snow depth amounts across the region. The National Weather Service office in Louisville will begin disseminating the CoCoRaHS reports from central southern Indiana and central Kentucky every morning at 10:00 am Eastern Time, beginning December 10, in one comprehensive product. The reports will be issued with the header "CoCoRaHS Precipitation Summary," under product type SDFLCOLMK. If you would like to volunteer for this fun program, please contact us at w-lmk.webmaster@noaa.gov[2].
