Weather Updates
===================================
With a powerhouse storm system moving toward Kentucky on Thursday
it was a windy day with scattered clouds and temperatures into the
upper 70s and low 80s. It definitely felt more like Spring instead
of Fall and that's not necessarily a good thing given the strength
of this system. The threat for severe weather will be with us
heading into early Friday as the cold front pushes across the
state. With plenty of warm, moist air riding northward, a strong
upper level jet stream adding lift to the equation and the wind
fields being so high, thunderstorms should break out into the
evening hours ahead of the front. Any of these storms could contain
damaging winds and even a few isolated tornadoes.
It appears
the greatest threat for the bluegrass region and points to the east
may be late this evening and into the wee hours of Friday. This is
when it is particularly dangerous with the possibility of severe
weather after dark. If you have a NOAA weather radio, it might be a
good idea to make sure it is in the alert mode before going to bed
later tonight. As the front moves eastward into Friday morning,
rain and storms along with the severe weather threat should come to
an end by mid to late morning. Winds will stay gusty Friday under
partly cloudy skies with highs around 70 degrees. Expect more of
the same Saturday with additional sunshine and pleasant
temperatures, although it will still be breezy.
Expect a quick
warm up on Sunday with highs close to 80 degrees before our next
system brings more rain and storms Monday followed by much cooler
air into the middle of next week. Stay with the 27 First Alert
Weather Center for the latest updates into early Friday...TG
