We need to talk about this web dying business

I've read a couple of entries and a Station post on this, and here is the latest gemlog.

=> The Slow and Sudden End of the Web

The giant spectrum elephant in the room

I have noticed a trend in our community, how we talk, the beliefs we hold and how strongly we hold them.

It has led me to believe that we have a large chunk, if not a majority, of people here that are on the spectrum.

This means a few things.

We are an echochamber of sorts, where some opinions we hold, don't get challenged.

We see patterns in reality, but viewed through a spectrum lens, the conclusions drawn may be out of focus.

The mild end of the spectrum

The vast majority do not think like we do, they in fact thrive on things we consider emotionally disturbing.

AD's, popups, gamefication and all the other web "bullshit", is actually stuff they enjoy, yes enjoy, not indifference or hate.

The web dying

This leads us to the meat of the cake, while the web to us feels like someone rubbing steel wool on our eyeballs, the majority is at worst indifferent.

People are happy with Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and so on. They don't mind a recipe written by an LLM.

There was even a recent BBS post on how a pretty UI is more important to the majority, than functionality.

To get to the point, I doubt the web is going anywhere, no matter how much we want it to. 💔

Final words

This is a bit of lecturing, so you can skip this if you want. 😂

We all need therapy, on the spectrum or off it. The kind of therapy YOU need, is deeply individual and it is something you will have to figure out.

Therapy can help us identify traumatic events and process them, for those on the spectrum, it can help us identify our shortcomings, something that is incredibly hard for someone on the spectrum to do.

So please go find your therapy, here are some suggestions.

I wish you all happy holidays!
