By The Byrds (1968)

This is the third Byrds album. Unposted reviews of 'Fifth Dimension' and 'Younger than Yesterday' were both 2s, so I came in expecting the worst. It's good though!
The album feels like a pitch for Country in a time when Country wasn't cool. The result is an accessible, slightly watered down poppy-rocky-country record that almost certainly made some people covertly give Country a bit more of a chance.
Country is uncool again. I'm not sure if it has really been cool while I've been alive - unless Johnny Cash covering 'Hurt' counts¹. If more country sounded like this, maybe it would be. But it lacks the wit and soul of classic country's finest. In a world where they're as easy to hear as The Byrds versions with the edges polished off, I'm not sure why I'd pick the latter.
