Sometimes this project throws you an easy one. It’s A Shame About Ray is in my regular rotation, but it had been a few weeks.
It’s horribly unhip to admit it now, but I first bought this album after hearing the cover of Mrs Robinson, probably in Waynes World 2. Almost certainly in Wayne’s World 2. I remember vaguely liking the album, but I was there for the tacked on cover version.
In time I realised the error of my ways - the Simon and Garfunkel version is far superior, and cover songs done in a different genre are mostly not worth the time¹.
Now I know that track actually was stuck on the end in a re-release, which helps consider the rest of the album separately. At some point, every track has been my favourite, or stuck in my head. Even the last two tracks, which feel more ‘throwaway’ than the others.
¹ Which makes the 2020s movie trailers very difficult to deal with
