I've seen a pretty consistent and pretty insane opinion from people I consider to be progressive and generally politically informed. Calling for the outgoing president to use emergency powers to subvert the results of what appears to be a fair and free (at of time of writing) election. They haven't (at time of writing) made any unsubstantiated claims that the election is invalid but what they're implying isn't any better. It might be worse; that it's not inherently a bad thing that the state can disregard it's own procedures and the rule of law. thet they are ok with the incresingly centralizatized power being vested in the state in general and the office of president in particular, as long as they do the stuff they agree with. That the modern nation-state isn't a moral evil in essence. that they would happily accept the satirical California Uber Alles unironically. Authoritarianism is cool as long as they agree with me.

As if this wouldn't simply leave the door open for another authoritarian takeover in a decade or so. As if this wouldn't continue the ongoing institutional processes that have brought us to this moment. These people have become infantilized. They pine for the same domination and strong leadership that the far-right has long ago accepted as their central concern.

the way to fix this is to disempower the state, not to hope for a savior on a white horse to come and take you away in fuzzy velvet handcuffs. to refuse ta cooperate , where at all practical, with the state's ever-growing, influnce and coercion into our lives. We need to take the wellbeing of ourselves and our communities into our own hands. It's not going to be easy, maybe it is impossible. But the alternatives are only a detour on the way to the collapse of global liberal capitalism into fascism. Relying on Joe "Started his political career by fighting desegregation" Biden to come and rescue us by increasing state power and disregard for limiting mechanisms is the exact opposite of a solution
