It's time for another round of "who can we blame this time?". I've seen headlines blaming Gen-z for "shifting right" and I've a couple blaming latinx voters. they once again depended on the other party to, in essence, write their platform for them and then have the gall to blame the voters.
what a perfect microcosm of the entire (big-tent) liberal political tradition; on the one hand you lionize the people as worthy of political rights and the backbone of society, while on the other you hold them in complete contempt as uncouth morons who need to be told what's best for them.
all the rhetoric about human rights and equality and fraternity is a thin veil draped over a whole room of various bigotries and -isms. minorities need the strong hand of the paternal state to do what's best for them. Demographics that don't fall in line must be shamed and reprimanded for their failure to realize their best interests.
And it's been the same crap for the past 3 elections. The cruelest irony is that the other guys are actually vile and open fascists but when you routinely fail offer a viable and substantive alternative you give up the right to start pointing fingers.
Give us a real platform. Stop trying to subvert the push to the left. Stop aborting the progressive upswells to apease capital. Stop wallowing in your Nietzschean slave morality and give us a platform that isn't bullshit and empty platitudes. Stop acting sanctimonious every time you fail to do so. People want solutions, not stopgap measures.
This constant reaction mindset is how fascists operate. It's how you maintain the status quo rather than building the future.
The social liberalism of the Democratic party is a half measure and they refuse to budge at all towards substantive economic reform. This is not a surprise, per se, but it is so very frustrating to watch them wave their hands around like progressive mimes on stage only for the makeup wash off when election season ends. Unless, of course, you're Bernie Sanders, in which case you do the opposite; fall in line when it matters but immediately restarting you're little one-man revolution after it's meaningless.
Let us not even begin to address the likes of AOC and her performative political pandering.
Perhaps best left for another day. I've got heartburn from this ongoing debacle.
