All the escapes I used to have are slowly, but surely, also starting to suck. "legit" media is almost impossible to watch anymore as it's become fragmented over multiple different platforms. And the "cashing in" of good will that so many of these platforms spent the past decade building has meant made things even worse. no more ad-supported free-tiers and paid-tiers that have ads anyways.

Places like youtube that still offer free content have an ad\content ratio that makes me yearn for rabbit ears free tv of yore (to say nothing of the actual quality of youtube content).

speaking of rabbit ears, the free ota tv reception in my area was wrecked by the switch to digital roughly 15 years ago (i'm not, you're old). as you know, digital means it's either all recieved or none of it is recieved. I get 2 channels, one with 2 sub channels. the days of pulling in barely visible reruns of Friends from the next town over are long behind us.

I've still got books, thank the Lord, and the public library hasn't been sent to the chop block by the free market zealots in government (yet). And other remnents of the old utopian order like archive.org and Project Gutenberg are still chooglin' as well.
