Nothing ever happens

we've all been subsumed into the virtual shitscape of the modern communication apparatus. You don't exist. I don't either. Not as we have come to know each other over this mediating entity known as "the internet".

And nothing that we have seen happen over the past 3 to 4 decades with our very own eyes has actually happened. Not in the ways we saw or heard or read it happen.

This is the virtual pomo garbageland of the 21st century. Nothing happens and nobody exists. I have come to call it Bullshit World.

Baudrillard called it a simulation or "hyperreality". Do not confuse this simulation with the one presented in films like Lawnmower Man or The Matrix (which, despite it's own insistence, owes more to Plato than our erstwhile Frenchman); there is no clearly defined line between reality and hyperreality. Not while our lives depend so deeply on the virtualizing forces of modern media and communication.

Even reading these words, delivered through the internet onto your computer or smartphone, is an abstraction that cannot reveal the actuallities it is trying to convey.

there is more to say here about the dangers and utilities of abstractions within interpersonal communication but I am a terrible improviser and would prefer to write out my thougts at lenghth before posting them here.
