text/gemini ##Making the Terminal Home I've been playing around with making more and more of my life work in terminal. Aspell comes out of the box on my distro (basically all?, the newb asks) and so learning that was a big move forward for me doing all of my writing in terminal with Nano. Also, I installed Lynx and have bookmarked the following: gopherpedia, gopher weather, sdf's phlogs, gopher hacker news, and the obligatory floodgap. Since gopher isn't everything, unfortunately, I also bookmarked Ran Prieur's site (he's a righteous dude), web proxies the Gemini home as well as Spacewalk (well that's one way to do it), and lastly wiby.me, which claims it is a search engine of the classic web, and to some extent lives up to that. Since I'm playing right now, sticking to the terminal game, which I admit isn't actually the most productive thing I could be doing right now, I was looking around at quite a few things on wiby. One was this: | I always love the "Doc Smith" approach to mathematics, where Our Hero | glances at an equation (sorry, "formula"), and instantly says "of | course...!" My experience is usually more like "I don't know what on | earth that means" ... scribble, scribble, scribble ... "Oh, yes, but | what a weird way of writing it" ... scribble, scribble, scribble ... | "now *this* should be a much clearer way" ... scribble, scribble, | scribble ... "oh, it's identical to what I started with. But *now* I | understand it." I can't *read* maths, I can only write it :-) | A colleague of mine put it better: "mathematics is not a spectator | sport". Certainly worth the price of admission, at least for me. == I love to hear from people. My email is the handle minus "net" (so, a work by Voltaire that starts with "c"), at sdf.org. While we're adding boiler plate: this work is hereby in the public domain. Do what you want with it.
