Crystal Kolipe has written up more of her work on the console. This time, it regards bugs in the handling of UTF-8: ExoticSilicon.com - fixing cringeworthy bugs in the OpenBSD console code.

The problem is, Panasonic and Apple have spoiled me with their 2× HiDPI displays. I love how images look, the higher fidelity of fonts in documents, and the ability to crank text down to smaller sizes when tailing logs. People saying these are silly luxuries were writing into PC Magazine saying 8-bit colour was sufficient in the 1990s, and that you don’t need double-density floppy disks because in my day we used punch card libraries, dagnabit!

dcieslak reworked locking for application-level font managers in app_server and fixed some logic errors.
madmax also fixed the build of test_app_server, the harness to run app_server in a window for testing purposes, for working on the previous changes. He also fixed the lifecycle handling of FontStyle objects within FontManagers, fixed FreeType error handling, and over the course of the month, performed many other clean-ups and refactors to this code. As a result, the app_server crashes triggered by the most recent version of WebPositive on nightly builds should be completely fixed.
kallisti5 fixed some pointer logic in index_server.
