From Techrights

Google has been around since the late 1990s. It has, in the process of its rapid evolution, extended way beyond and outside Web indexing/search. It bought a lot of companies, killed off many disservices, and even created a new shell called "Alphabet" to dodge scrutiny (like Microsoft creating/buying new subsidiaries and Facebook rebranding as Meta as scandals piled up and clout diminished). Google's relationship with society is very complicated as it seeks military ("defence") contracts, snitches on people, and has basically managed to create the most widely used client OS (Android), which harms privacy and freedom although it runs Linux.

Google can be both an enemy and and ally of convenience, especially against Windows monoculture.
