My Desk Explained
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0
http://techrights.org/videos/multi-pc-setup.webm
Summary: After various changes (adding plants, 3 large speakers etc.) I’ve
decided to explain how my office is configured for maximal visibility (almost
no need for virtual desktops)
THE other day I was asked about my desk’s arrangement and how it was
facilitating improved workflow, productivity etc. in light of this_post_and
photograph. It was about the site turning 16.5 years old (we’ll soon have 36.5k
blog posts!).
“All the machines run GNU/Linux and the recording above was done using OBS.”The
video above illustrates some of the things I learned through trial and error,
including being able to exercise while working (mostly reading) and
ergonomically important tips/tricks. Being at the desk about 100 hours a week
means that posture and “micro-breaks” are very important. The way different
computers and screens are used is explained in passing (not in-depth; we did
that in past years) and there are changes coming next week while my wife goes
on holiday, rendering her second computer available to me (so a total of 8
keyboards on the desk). All the machines run GNU/Linux and the recording above
was done using OBS. No preparations done for this video; it was 100%
spontaneous. █

🄸🄼🄰🄶🄴 🄳🄴🅂🄲🅁🄸🄿🅃🄸🄾🄽 ⦇Deposed as Chairman May 2021; Not how EPO was made⦈
Summary: Europe’s largest patent office continues to be “Shambles Defined” in
terms of quality and in terms of justice; why doesn’t the mainstream media
raise awareness of this? (Likely political reasons and heavy lobbying, not to
mention bribery of large publishers like the Financial Times)
THE EPO‘s staff union, SUEPO, has just_highlighted this new_article. “The EPO
met again with in-house counsel who are concerned that patent quality standards
are slipping in favour of speedy grants,” says the introduction, but it’s
behind a paywall. Benoît_Battistelli and António_Campinos have done great
damage to promote European_software_patents and inflate_a_bubble. A source has
meanwhile shared with us the way patent attorneys leverage the “Hey Hi” (AI)
hype to push software patents. Bastian Best sent a message yesterday, full of
tracking inside the message, entitled “Software patents in Europe (presentation
slides)” (he’s shamelessly promoting such patents for 15+ years already). He
says: “It’s all about the technical contribution, but what exactly is
“technical” at the European Patent Office? Is it “technical” when engineers
solve hard industrial problems with AI?”
Totally meaningless junk. The rest speaks of “Statistics on AI patent filings
in Europe”. This also mentions “A checklist for structuring software patent
claims” and “A checklist for structuring software patent claims”…
So the EPO has opened itself to such abuse, bolstered further by buzzwords.
Where do the Boards of Appeal stand on the matter? Well, they clearly have no
independence or a mind of their own. Not anymore…
This happens to have been the subject of discussion in blog_comments lately.
“The damage has been done,” the latest comment says. Right next to it we have
this new rant about Calle Josefsson [1, 2, 3, 4, 5], the notorious judge who is
a “yes man” of corrupt EPO managers. These people make a career out of sucking
up to the most corrupt establishment. Prepare for Klaus Grabinsky, another
opportunist who grabbed the chance to serve the abuses. Although there are
plenty of comments there (we’ve archives most of them in IRC), some better than
others, here’s the latest one on “BREAKING: In-person proceedings are still the
“Gold Standard” – Boards of Appeal start to diverge on ViCo (T 2432/19)” (post
by IPKat): “A good question about objections under Article 24 EPC. Indeed, that
question is highly pertinent to every petition for review that, at least in
part, is based upon the imposition of VICO as the format for oral proceedings.
And yet the President of the Boards has no problem appointing himself to the
EBA in respect of such petitions. For example, see the_composition_of_the_EBA
for_R12/22, which has not changed since it was first set almost 1 year ago
[...] Arguably, the participation of the President as a member of the EBA for
cases concerning the validity and/or interpretation of Art 15a RPBA falls foul
of Article 24(1) EPC. It is a shame that the EBA in G 1/21 failed to consider
that point. However, given that the President was excluded under Article 24(3)
EPC from EBA for G 1/21, there is no doubt that, for the same reasons, he MUST
be excluded from all other cases concerning Art 15a RPBA. Any other outcome
would cause (yet more) serious damage to the perception of independence of the
EBA.”
The European Patent Register is cited above. One can see that the patent
microcosm itself is openly admitting that this system is out of control. Will
they go a step further and suggest that the UPC would be a disaster for the
EU’s reputation unless it was stopped in its tracks? SUEPO ought to speak a lot
more often against the UPC. FFII seems a little upset that SUEPO isn’t doing
enough in that area. The UPC is, among other things, a Trojan horse for
software patents. The appointment of Grabinski is a shining clue to that
effect. █

Quite Likely Last Year of Sirius
Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 4.0
http://techrights.org/videos/sirius-almost-nobody-left.webm
Summary: The situation at Sirius_‘Open_Source’ is getting grimmer by the day or
by the week; there’s almost nobody left at the company and those who are still
there look for a way out, an escape from the sinking ship
THE crimes of Sirius aside, as the_police_investigates_these_too_slowly (as
expected all along and right from the start), today we take a quick look at the
company as seen from the eyes of Microsoft (LinkedIn). There seems to be almost
nobody left there; from what we can gather, it’s a very contingency-based semi-
operational mode, trying to retain what’s left of the contracts. A couple of
months ago a reasonably new employee was given more authority, as others left
the company, creating a highly critical skills vacuum.
Will the company reach its 25th anniversary? That doesn’t seem so likely. For
privacy reasons the video above does not show the screen and instead I’m
reading or explaining what I am seeing before me (on a separate computer). █

allowing for greater flexibility and scalability.

Apache CouchDB is a free yet reliable non-
relational or NoSQL database engine. It is written
in Erlang language and natively supports data in
JSON format. The data can be accessed and queried
via the HTTP protocol, making it easier and more
scalable compared to traditional SQL relational
databases like MySQL. CouchDB also offers
replication capability and provides high
availability access. This tutorial will show you
how to install CouchDB on AlmaLinux.
# ⚓ Kev Quirk ☛ Underline_Your_Links⠀⇛
I’ve talked about this myself in the past and I
wholeheartedly agree with Jatan on this. While
perusing the internet I’ve seen links that are
formatted in all kinds of ways, even ones that
don’t seem to be formatted at all and are, to my
eye at least, completely indistinguishable from the
rest of the body text.
# ⚓ Jatan Mehta ☛ Colored_vs._underlined_links⠀⇛
Colored text links on the Internet are popular. The
familiar blue touted by a majority of hyperlinks on
the Web goes back to 1993. However, as the linked
article explores, web links used to be underlined
for a decade before they went blue. I think we
should go back to having underlined links
everywhere for several reasons.
# ⚓ University of Toronto ☛ The_time_our_Linux_systems_spend_on

We run the Prometheus host agent on all of our
Linux machines. Every fifteen seconds our
Prometheus server pulls metrics from all the host
agents, which causes the host agent to read a bunch
of /proc files (for things like memory and CPU
state information) and /sys files (for things like
hwmon information). These status files are text,
but they contain a lot of numbers, which means that
the kernel converted those integers into text for
us. The host agent then converts that text back
into numbers internally (I believe a mixture of 64-
bit integers and 64-bit floats), only to turn
around and send them to the Prometheus server as
text again (see Exposition Formats, also). On the
Prometheus server these text numbers will be turned
back into floats. All of this takes CPU cycles,
although perhaps not many CPU cycles on modern
machines.

KVMs, you’re not alone. It’s easy to wonder: what
is KVM, and what does it stand for? How can you use
KVM as a virtualization technology in your

Getting started with KVMs on Linux is a simple
process. If you want to run other Linux
distributions or even Windows on your Linux PC, all
you need to do is install a few modules and prepare
your PC for virtualization. Here’s how you can
start using KVM on Linux.

As part of this mission, Together aims to establish open

its aims is to create open models that outperform their
closed-source brethren. To do this, Together is
collaborating with various open-source groups, academic
and corporate research labs, while assembling an
impressive team of committed AI researchers, engineers
and practitioners.
o ⚓ Together ☛ Together’s_$20M_seed_funding_to_build_open-source_AI

When Chris, Percy, Ce and I first got together last year,
we all felt it was clear that foundation models
represented a generational shift in technology, maybe the
most significant since the invention of the transistor.
At the time, we could see the trend toward centralization
of these models within a small number of corporations due
to the vast expense of high-end GPU clusters needed for
training. Meanwhile, the open community that had led the
innovations in AI over the prior decades had limited
agency in shaping the coming world of AI. In founding
Together, we were driven by the belief that open and
decentralized alternatives to closed systems were going
to be important — and possibly critical for business and
society.
o ⚓ Olaf Alders ☛ PrettyGoodPing:_Now_with,_you_know,_Ping⠀⇛
When I first created prettygoodping.com, it didn’t just
check SSL/TLS expiration dates and domain name
expirations. It could also ping servers and make HTTP
HEAD requests to check URL uptime. However, I didn’t add
the existing ping and HTTP HEAD checks to the beta
accounts. That made for a simpler launch as there were
fewer things to go wrong, but it also made for a more
confusing name. PrettyGoodPing didn’t, you know, ping.
I’ve been beta testing the ping and HEAD checks in my own
account for a few months now and I’m happy with them.
It’s time to make them more widely available.

While most of our software relies on Unicode
strings, we often still encounter legacy encodings
such as Latin 1. Before we convert Latin 1 strings
to Unicode (e.g., UTF-8), we must compute the size
of the UTF-8 string. It is fairly easy: all ASCII
characters map 1 byte to 1 byte, while other
characters (with code point values from 128 to 256)
map 1 Latin byte to 2 Unicode bytes (in UTF-8).

[legolor] brings us a great, cheap rotary axis to
add to your small 3 axis CNC mills. How are you
going to generate G-Code for this 4th axis? That’s
the great part, and the hack, that [legolor] really
just swapped the Y axis for the rotation. To finish
the workflow and keep things cheap accessible to
all there’s a great trick to “unwrap” your 3D model
so your CAM software of choice thinks it’s still
using a linear Y axis and keeps your existing
workflow largely intact. While this requires an
extra step in Blender to do the unwrapping, we love
the way this hack changes as little of the rest of
your process as possible. The Blender script might
be useful for many other purposes too.

If you’ve got a laser cutter, it is highly probable

two flavors: very expensive and amazing or
moderately expensive and cheaply made. However, we
are seeing that even the moderately expensive
machines are now becoming quite advanced. [Chad]
reviews a 55-watt xTool P2. At around $5,000, it is
still a little spendy for a home shop, but it does
have pretty amazing features. We can only hope some
less expensive diode lasers will adopt some of
these features.

a boutique airline, a bank in the Missouri Ozarks,
a chain of carpet stores, a marijuana farm in

The “conglomerate,” as the Beers family calls it,
was made possible by hundreds of millions of
dollars collected from Americans who thought they
had found an affordable alternative to medical
insurance. Instead, many were saddled with debt.
The conglomerate, however, is showing signs of
strain as the family downsizes its workforce and
sells off some of its holdings. These moves will
free up cash, said an attorney who represents

court settlement related to its alleged fraud. Now,
another big debt has come their way: Several family

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about
ProtocolKills.com, a website and effort started by
a woman named Greta Crawford in order to
“inform”—misinform, actually—the public about the
supposed dangers of hospital protocols to treat
COVID-19 and how hospitals, not COVID-19, had
killed so many people and almost killed her, a
conclusion that she came to seemingly because
everyone in her family caught COVID-19 but she was
the only one who was hospitalized with serious
illness from it. Basically, a large part of the
website includes anecdotes from COVID-19 patients
who became severely ill and were hospitalized (or
their surviving family members if they didn’t make
it), all complaining about how doctors and
hospitals wouldn’t treat them or their loved ones
with ivermectin or any other unproven/disproven
treatment or quackery and how intubation,
remdesivir, intubation, and everything else about
conventional medicine, not COVID-19, had harmed
them or killed their loved ones. Indeed, I had
become aware of the website when I saw this poster
in a shop window near the barber shop where I had
just gotten a haircut (and where I had happened to
walk past last week while heading to a restaurant,
only to see that the images are still there):

when some 700,000 Palestinians fled from or were
violently expelled from their homes upon Israel’s

of fighting, that killed 33 Palestinians in Gaza
and two people in Israel, was brought to a stop
this weekend after the Israeli army and the
militant group Islamic Jihad agreed to a Egyptian-
brokered ceasefire. Today the United Nations is
holding its first-ever high-level special meeting

fulcrum of Palestinian history. It signified the
consolidation of the Zionist project in Palestine,
which resulted in the dispossession of 750,000 to a

livelihoods. The term “Nakba” means catastrophe: a
world-destroying upheaval. Among the 7 million
Palestinian refugees today left waiting in the
anteroom of history—and the 7 million more living
in their historic homeland under an expanding
regime of expropriation and domination—this
catastrophe is as much a condition of the present

If you’re driving across the length of our bruised
geography, you will at various points encounter
rubble. Sometimes it is the rubble of a house in
Jerusalem, demolished once, or more than once, in
the past few decades. Other times, it is the ruins
of a village, depopulated in 1948, now poorly
concealed under a forest of pine trees planted by
the Jewish National Fund. Sometimes it is the
rubble of a bullet-strafed home in the occupied
Syrian Golan, which came to its knees during the
1967 invasion. Other times, it is the rubble of a
residential building bombed during one of the
assaults on the besieged Gaza Strip—in 2008, ’09,
’12, ’14, ’19, or ’21. Or, if you are reading this
a few years from now, it may well be the wreckage
of Silwan, Masafer Yatta, and the Naqab, towns that
are still bustling but threatened.
As you breeze through this landscape, you will
likely come across towns and refugee camps with
posters of our martyrs pinned all over the walls.
The dates on some of the posters may be difficult
to decipher, but you can guess when they were first
plastered by looking at their condition: If they
are pristine and vibrant, they’re fresh off the
press; if brittle and faded, damaged by rain, dirt,
or stray bullets, and peeling off the walls, they
might be from some time ago—the Second Intifada or
one of the intifadas that came after. Many, likely
most, of the faces will be unfamiliar to you, for
they have been killed outside the international
news cycle—their deaths marked only by fleeting
local headlines. If you slow down to read, you
might find portraits of a father and a son sharing
the same wall, an uncle and a niece, sometimes from
the same year, sometimes generations apart.

As Henry Kissinger reaches 100 years of age on May
27, Chileans are preparing to commemorate the 50th
anniversary of the bloody military coup that the
former US national security adviser helped
orchestrate in September 1973. Kissinger’s
controversial career is littered with scandals and
crimes against humanity: support for mass murderers
and torturers abroad, domestic wiretapping,
clandestine wars in Indochina, and, as Greg Grandin
reminds us, secretly sabotaging the quest for peace
in Vietnam. But his pivotal role in the covert US
efforts to undermine democracy in Chile, aiding and
abetting the rise of the infamous dictator Augusto
Pinochet, will always be the Achilles’ heel of
Kissinger’s much-ballyhooed legacy. 1
The declassified historical record leaves no doubt
that Kissinger was the chief architect of US
efforts to destabilize the democratically elected
government of Socialist Party leader Salvador
Allende. Once Allende was overthrown, Kissinger
became the leading enabler of Pinochet’s repressive
new regime. “I think we should understand our
policy—that however unpleasant they act, this
government is better for us than Allende was,” he
told his deputies as they reported to him on the
human rights atrocities in the weeks following the
coup. At a private June 1976 meeting with Pinochet
in Santiago, Secretary of State Kissinger offered
platitudes rather than pressure: “My evaluation is
that you are a victim of all left-wing groups
around the world,” he told Pinochet, “and that your
greatest sin was that you overthrew a government
which was going communist.” 2

The decision shows that, though the three countries
or regions have expressed similar views about the
need to rein in Big Tech’s power, they aren’t in
lockstep. Microsoft may have a green light to close
the deal in the EU, but it can’t actually do it
without getting the same from the UK and the US.
The matter is currently winding its way through the
court system in the US and the UK’s decision is
being appealed. While Microsoft and Activision
Blizzard are both major players in the gaming
industry and shouldn’t have much trouble carrying
on separately, not being able to merge does hurt
their ambitions to get even bigger.
When the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority
(CMA) rejected the Microsoft acquisition, it was
because it believed it would make Microsoft too
powerful in the nascent cloud gaming market, as
Microsoft has the Xbox Cloud Gaming and PC Game
Pass offerings, as well as the Azure cloud
computing platform. The CMA cited fears that
Microsoft would have to increase the price of its
Game Pass subscriptions to account for the tens of
billions of dollars it spent to acquire Activision,
that it would make Activision’s titles exclusive to
its own services, and that the games were not open
to computers that didn’t have Windows operating
systems.

one in my (perhaps a bit screwed up) mind, not
because of how it’s written (I wouldn’t dare have
such an inflated opinion of myself), but because of
what it’s all about. It’s my take on the story of
Jesus and Mary Magdalene. A struggling carpenter’s
son who found his true calling in life, a rich and
well-situated man’s daughter who didn’t wanna get
married to someone twice her age, someone she
didn’t really know, didn’t love. A holy epitaph of
sorts, a love story and an hommage to Harry Dean
Stanton, the actor, singer and renaissance man, who
I really admired for his candor, his singing and
his straight-forward acting. I wrote the story a

put some autobiographical elements in it, but
mainly, it’s just a made-up fairy tale to be amused

A bit harsh, explicitly outspoken (x-rated), here
and there, I know, but with this said, I truly

all that and find your way into the heart of Mary –
the character, the symbol, the woman who did what
she needed to do to be able to follow her heart –
to believe in herself, in the man she loved

than herself, in truth, in forgiveness, in

Over the years i’ve heard and read many negative
experiences of psychiatrists. Most of the people
relating these experiences are women and/or afab;
most of the psychiatrists involved are cis men.
Common themes are arrogance, condescension and
dismissiveness – not particularly surprising, given
the presence of not only gender dynamics, but also
things like class privilege on the part of the
psychiatrists involved. The stories range from
“that wasn’t so great” through to “I was actively
psychologically damaged or traumatised”.
Although, in theory, one can lodge complaints about
these things with various professional and
government bodies, it’s unlikely to be a trivial
process in practice. In fact, it’s likely to
require a substantial amount of resources, both
psychological and financial – and many clients of
psychiatrists simply don’t have these resources.
Worse, there can even be limitations on sharing
information via informal channels: here in

autistics. Someone quite reasonably asked “In what
way?” My reply got long, so i’ve decided to instead
put it up as a post. tl;dr: If you’re at all
concerned about the mental health professions’
historical and current attitudes towards us queers,
you should definitely be concerned about their
historical and current attitudes towards autistics.
# ⚓ Populism⠀⇛
It’s weird how the shift from workers vs owners to
pluralists vs populists has been presented as this
new phenomenon by commentators like Norris and
Inglehart, the latter arguing that it’s because of
how the new generation has new values.
o § Technical⠀➾
# ⚓ “the_only_way_to_win,_is_not_to_play”⠀⇛
I haven’t. I have nothing against AI, but I will
not be delving into it with reckless abandon (or at
all) like I did w/ the WWW in the mid-90s. A lot of
headache (for me, my life) could have been head off
if I had not gone down The Rabbithole.
The Web is great. It’s also so elementary in
“concept” (or was, now it’s a reality) that it’s
hard to imagine civilization became so enamored
with it.
A server talks to another server. The messages can
be, and are, fast. Fairly quicker than the postal
service, and back and forth continuously should one
choose.
# § Internet/Gemini⠀➾
# ⚓ Self_Referential_Post⠀⇛
It refers to itself in three different ways:
First it describes itself in sufficient
detail that a casual observer could identify
whether any post is equivalent to my post;
although of course they could not be certain
that it’s the same instance or even whether
it’s identical to my post.
# ⚓ Are_we_rebuilding_the_centralized_web,_minus
tracking?⠀⇛
It has been some time since my last gemlog
entry (or blog post for that matter)… Mainly
because real life and work has been crazier
than usual… I’ve managed to stay more or less
up to date with content I wanted to read, but
not with my writings… But when free time is
more limited than usual, priorities and
choices must be made ^^.
/!\: This post contains what I believe will
be a *very* unpopular opinion about bubble
and how gemini is getting more centralized
and dependant on a small number of users /
services, if you disagree and might get
angry, ignoring this post may be the best :).
I don’t expect response to this post, so
don’t force yourself either. /!\
# ⚓ Bubble_and_Geminispace.org_–_Worry_About
Centralization⠀⇛
If I were to choose a core mission for the
project, it would be to enhance social
interactions inside the Gemini community. I
think something fundamental was lost after
the Gemini mailing list shut down. While
aggregated gemlogs are a sort of a
communication medium, the level of friction
is very high and there are quite high
technical barriers to participation. (The
Usenet group is good to have around, but
let’s face it: in the year 2023, Usenet is a
relic.) I would be very happy if Bubble and,
for now, Geminispace.org, can bring a sense
of cohesion and connectedness to the
community in a way that is “native” to the
Gemini protocol.
# ⚓ Re:_Bubble_and_Geminispace.org_–_Worry_About
Centralization⠀⇛
I do kinda agree with @bacardi55 that
centralization is dangerous because it
decreases resilience, even when the central
power is as benevolent and kind as @skyjake
haha.
While it’s not currently having any negative
effects, just the basic surface way in which
browsing geminispace.org using Lagrange is
analogous to using google.com on the chrome
browser makes me a little uneasy.
# ⚓ Station’s_thoughts_on_gemini_and_centralization?⠀⇛
# ⚓ feeds_are_a_dark_pattern⠀⇛
I’m glad to see the current wave of non-
corporate social media. I’m also disappointed
to see how most of them copy the worst
feature of corporate ones – the feed.
I know this might sound weird, especially if
you haven’t tried out anything else – but
bear with me.
One of the issues with feeds is how they
(don’t) handle the conflict between frequent
vs. rare posters. Their posts are all mixed
together. The only way to ensure that you’ve
seen the posts from the latter is to try to
scroll down as much as possible each time –
which gets addictive. The alternative is to
just take short peeks of the feed – seeing
posts only from a small minority of the
people you follow.
# ⚓ smolZINE_–_Issue_38⠀⇛
We’re back! You’ve all been busy doing some
pretty rad things around geminspace and
that’s great to see. As always, if you are
enjoying smolZINE and have any desire to
contribute, please check out the Community
Contributions section at the bottom and get
in touch. HINT: The more contributions I get
the more often I will publish new issues ;-).

# ⚓ Linuxiac ☛ Rocky_Linux_9.2_Is_Now_Available_for_Download,
Here’s_What’s_New⠀⇛
Rocky Linux, a powerful enterprise-grade Linux
distribution based on the RHEL, has gained
widespread popularity among developers, sysadmins,
and organizations seeking a stable and secure
platform.
Less than a week after the RHEL 9.2 release, Rocky
Linux 9.2 followed suit, offering expanded
capabilities, security updates, and other fixes.
So, the new stable Rocky Linux 9.2 release for
x86_64, aarch64, and s390x architectures, powered
by Linux kernel 5.14, is ready for production and
to power up your computing needs and workloads. So
let’s see what’s new.
o § Debian Family⠀➾
# ⚓ 9to5Linux ☛ Tails_5.13_Enables_LUKS2_by_Default_for
Persistent_Storage_and_Encrypted_Volumes⠀⇛
Tails 5.13 looks like a small release, but it
introduces an important change to better protect
your anonymity and keep your files secure at all
times. Starting with this version, all newly
generated Persistent Storage and LUKS encrypted
volumes will be using version 2 of the Linux
Unified Key Setup (LUKS) disk encryption
specification by default.
As you can imagine, LUKS2 offers stronger
cryptography by default when compared to the first-
generation LUKS specification. Unfortunately, this
release doesn’t enable LUKS2 on existing Persistent
Storage and LUKS encrypted volumes, but the
development team announced plans to provide users a
migration plan from LUKS1 to LUKS2 in the next
release, Tails 5.14, due out in June 2023.
o § Canonical/Ubuntu Family⠀➾
# ⚓ OMG Ubuntu ☛ Ubuntu_Makes_‘Significant_Changes’_to_PPAs_for
23.10⠀⇛
A new version of the software-properties package is
rolling out to Mantic Minotaur daily builds. The
update makes brings a “significant change” to the
way personal package archives (better known as
PPAs) are managed on Ubuntu systems.
What’s changing?
Well, in current versions of Ubuntu when you add a
PPA (via the command line — you can add them via
Software & Updates but I’m not sure how key
handling works there) a .list file for the PPA is
created in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/, and the
corresponding gpg keyring placed at /etc/apt/
trusted.gpg.d.
# ⚓ It’s FOSS ☛ Beginner’s_Guide_to_System_Updates_in_Linux
Mint⠀⇛
Keeping your system updated is essential for any
operating system. Linux Mint is no different.
Linux Mint has a robust update system. It provides
timely security patches for the kernel and other
software packages. That’s not it. You also get
updates on the applications you installed using the
Software Manager tool.
Basically, apart from security patches, your system
receives new features, bug fixes, improved hardware
support, performance enhancement, and a lot more.
While the Updater tool is straightforward, it may
still seem overwhelming if you are new to Linux
Mint.
This is why we at It’s FOSS came up with this
beginner’s guide idea. It will give you some ideas
about using this tool and the best practices you
should follow.

button is a binary mechanism.

form of dialog. Because a number of separate
features flow from this, I thought I’d start
