09:10 schestowitz;

09:10 schestowitz; Over 30 years ago the late Ian Murdock wrote to the comp.os.linux.development newsgroup about the completion of a brand-new Linux release which he named "The Debian Linux Release".

09:10 schestowitz; He built the release by hand, from scratch, so to speak. Ian laid out guidelines for how this new release would work, what approach the release would take regarding its size, manner of upgrades, installation procedures; and with great care of consideration for users without Internet connection.

09:10 schestowitz; Unaware that he had sparked a movement in the fledgling F/OSS community, Ian worked on and continued to work on Debian. The release, now aided by volunteers from the newsgroup and around the world, grew and continues to grow as one of the largest and oldest FREE operating systems that still exist today.

19:00 schestowitz; "One issue is ownership of the data that an AI that outputs in the form of an embodiment of a patentable inventive concept. That's easy though. The machine does not own the data it outputs.Another issue is the point in time when an invention is conceived. Is it when the AI outputs (or even before it does any outputting) the outcome of its data processing? Or is it when a human looking at that output perceives in it, that is

19:00 schestowitz; to say, "conceives" in it, something that rises to the level of a concept that is arguably "inventive" that is to say an "invention" that might be patentable? Who first gets to see the AI output has first opportunity to "make" a patentable invention. One supposes that the owner of the AI guards the output of the AI as if it were a trade secret.Can machines yet "think"? Dubio

19:00 schestowitz; ergo cogito, cogito ergo sum. I doubt; and therefore I think. Machines don't have any doubts, do they? So they don't yet think, right. And if they can't yet think, how can they make an invention?"
