05:23 schestowitz; Bringing Teams Together: The divisive exercise

05:23 schestowitz; Dear colleagues,

05:23 schestowitz; Since the last Working Group meeting of 21 November 2022, management has unilaterally made radical changes to the project Bringing Teams Together. According to information now provided to line managers, the 3-day rule will not guarantee an allocated fixed workplace anymore. Line managers are asked to proceed on the basis of quotas (70% of workplaces) which will trigger divisive discussions among team members.

05:23 schestowitz; This paper gives more details of what we learnt about the revised plans of the administration.

11:53 schestowitz; If you have read the ssh whoami.filippo.io post by Filippo Valsorda and the related whoarethey: Determine Who Can Log In to an SSH Server post by Andrew Ayer, you might be wondering if we can do something about it in the OpenSSH client configuration.

11:53 schestowitz; A lot of OpenSSH hardening guides focus on configuration recommendations for the OpenSSH server. Since the integration of Wireguard in the Linux kernel and with clients available for all majors platforms, I have been progressively switching all my OpenSSH servers to listening only on a Wireguard interface which thus significantly reduced the pressure for strong sever side OpenSSH hardening. Do not get me

11:53 schestowitz; wrong: it is still useful and you should still do it but it is no longer a critical priority.

11:53 schestowitz; In this post I will describe a part of my OpenSSH client configuration that mitigates both of the issues mentioned in the posts above. I have been using this configuration without issue for approximately five years now.

11:58 schestowitz;

11:59 schestowitz; SARDA is currently an early prototype and its capabilities are limited, but the idea is sound. It is a little wheeled robot that would (in theory, at least) rove around a disaster area while mapping its surroundings. It could work autonomously or an operator could guide it manually. While moving around an area, it would generate a 3D map of rigid objects, like walls and obstacles, and also health hazards

11:59 schestowitz; like clouds of smoke, heat, or toxic gases. A computer at a control station would use that data to produce a digital 3D render of the environment that first responders could reference during their search and rescue efforts.

12:02 schestowitz; So I asked on Mastodon for examples of how floating point has gone wrong for them in real programs, and as always folks delivered! Here are a bunch of examples. Ive also written some example programs for some of them to see exactly what happens. Heres a table of contents: [...]

12:03 schestowitz;

12:03 schestowitz; Go, also known as GoLang, is an open source programming language developed at Google by Robert Griesemer, Rob Pike, and Ken Thompson in 2007.

12:03 schestowitz; The Go language became a public open source project on November 10, 2009. Go language is being actively used in some Google's production servers, as well as by other companies such as Dropbox, CoreOS, CloudFlare, Docker, Soundcloud, Uber and many.

12:03 schestowitz; Now let us go ahead and see two ways to install Golang and configure Go programming language in Linux.
