01:13 schestowitz; [18:56] Hmm... I remember all that drama with TJ holowaychuck leaving the NPM scene
01:13 schestowitz; [18:56] Wondering if that was related to Microsoft acquiring NPM
01:13 schestowitz; [18:57] A bit off topic but that whole event seemed strange
01:13 schestowitz; [18:58] Yeah so Alex and I talked a bit about copilot
01:13 schestowitz; [18:58] The way he originally described it to me it sounded like code audit software
01:13 schestowitz; [18:58] anything I can find out about plans of copilot
01:13 schestowitz; [18:58] or NPM
01:13 schestowitz; [18:58] would help
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] it's shrouded in mystery
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] Microsoft is trying to swallow all the code
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] and repos (NPM)

01:13 -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-Farewell Node.js. Leaving node.js land | by TJ Holowaychuk | Medium
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] So this was a pretty big event
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] At that point in time TJ had written like 60% of the no JS projects that everyone uses
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] Mostly by himself
01:13 schestowitz; [18:59] Some people thought he wasn't a real person for a long
01:13 schestowitz; [19:00] Time
01:13 schestowitz; [19:00] hmmm
01:13 schestowitz; [19:00] Like they thought he was a collective
01:13 schestowitz; [19:00] Completely unrelated to anything I know about Alex
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] still interesting
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] TJ is just a legend and influenced my personal coding style
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] npm is a piece for Microsoft's supply chain plan
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] they hired from NSA for GitHub
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] they can even plant back doors in downloads
01:13 schestowitz; [19:01] There was another issue with the guy who originally wrote node
01:14 schestowitz; [19:01] node ja
01:14 schestowitz; [19:01] Node js
01:14 schestowitz; [19:02] He wrote it then quit
01:14 schestowitz; [19:02] Joyent hired him
01:14 schestowitz; [19:02] I know that company
01:14 schestowitz; [19:02] Ryan Dahl
01:14 schestowitz; [19:03] Apparently thinks writing node JS was a mistake
01:14 schestowitz; [19:03] Interesting he's also from Rochester
01:14 schestowitz; [19:03] Alex is from there
01:14 schestowitz; [19:03] They're about the same age
01:14 schestowitz; [19:04] Oh wait, just went to school there
01:14 schestowitz; [19:05] Npm was acquired by github before the microsoft acquisition
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] I thought the opposite?
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] Can you check?
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] happened about a year after
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] I am almost certain
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] But not sure
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] unless you know something I don't...
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] But this is my recollection based on being a JavaScript person
01:14 schestowitz; [19:06] like, if they agreed on it upfront
01:14 schestowitz; [19:07] June 2018 ish is MSGItHub
01:14 schestowitz; [19:07] Oh ok. Thanks for the correction
01:14 schestowitz; [19:09] Yeah tj's complaints about node mostly seemed technical but who knows

16:28 schestowitz; Publication on behalf of the The Hague Staff Representatives (LSCTH).
16:28 schestowitz; Dear colleagues,
16:28 schestowitz; #BreakTheBias, is this years campaign theme of the International Womens Day. Bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. A visible episode to the world was a striking gender bias towards the President of the European Commission.
16:28 schestowitz; Last year, the President of the European Commission, Ms. von der Leyen visited Ankara to discuss how to resume coordination with Turkey on vital issues. Instead of a chair next to the countrys president, Ms. von der Leyen was relegated to a nearby sofa. Later she shared her thoughts:
16:28 schestowitz; My visit to Turkey showed how far we still have to go before women are treated as equals. Always. Everywhere.
16:28 schestowitz; My story made headlines. But there are so many stories of women, most of them far more serious, that go unobserved.
16:28 schestowitz; We have to make sure these stories are also told!
16:28 schestowitz; ("5:34 PM 26 apr 2021Twitter Web App")
16:28 schestowitz; Ms. Von der Leyens call for womens rights goes beyond the quest for equality, it recognizes that anonymous women have stories to be told, concerns to be addressed and dreams to be fulfilled. Everywhere. However, up to now the requested Workplace Gender Equality Diagnosis, the impact of the Childcare and Education Reform on our colleagues lives and careers, are just promises. The real obstacles and common concerns are not addressed by the
16:28 schestowitz; administration, colleagues are not listened to, and your staff representatives' input seems to be superfluous. Our womens worries are being renegaded to a sofa. Where are the stories of women being told?
16:28 schestowitz; The staff representation would not think of a better way of celebrating International Womens Day than giving voiceless women the chair at the negotiations table. Always.
16:28 schestowitz; Staff Representation takes action, strives to break the bias, gives you a voice.
16:28 schestowitz; Contact us on dhstcom@epo.org and tell us your story.
16:28 schestowitz; In these tragic days of war in Europe, in this international womens day our thoughts go out to the women of Ukraine.
