THE UEFI fiasco has been covered here for over a decade I spoke to Intel executives about it (they invited me to speak to them when I was in my 20s). Every negative thing I had said about UEFI turned out to be true, including the security flaws, as noted in our daily links [1, 2] and some recent posts. Even the US government now formally cautions about the attack surface of UEFI.
