Summary: YouTube is getting very sinister very fast; we urge people to drop YouTube, both as viewers (to the extent feasible) and as “creators” (people who upload their work there)
THE issues with YouTube are rapidly increasing and today we started a series about it. We’re going to deal with one major issue at the time and at the end we”ll take stock of the whole.
“This series will likely carry on every day for the coming week.”
As noted earlier today (and also in the video above), one major problem with YouTube is that after management change it ‘wasted’ no time and immediately cracked down on people who want an experience that works for them, including Free software such as Invidious. This is just the start. It’ll get worse.
There’s also a lesson to be learned here about GitHub (Microsoft) hosting for code, a lesson that wasn’t learned by enough people after the youtube-dl saga. This series will likely carry on every day for the coming week. We have many other issues to cover and we’ll explain why YouTube has no future (for people who value their freedom and their work). █
