=> ↺ WCCF Tech ☛ Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPU Support Added In Latest Linux Patch
- There’s more evidence now that Intel is going to launch its 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPU family on the desktop platform. We have seen various leaks over the past few months and the latest information comes within the Linux 6.3 patch which adds support for Meteor Lake-S SPI serial flash along with a list of Meteor Lake-S PCI IDs to the driver list of supported devices. This patch was released recently on the 6th of May.
=> ↺ DebugPoint ☛ Linux Kernel 6.4 RC1 Released with Intel LAM, More Rust Code
- he merge window for Linux Kernel 6.4 is now closed, followed by the two weeks of merge window since Kernel 6.3 release. While announcing, Linus mentioned that it is a fairly normal merge cycle with usual changes across Kernel, with AMD dominating the space.
- That being said, let’s take a look at what’s new in Linux Kernel 6.4.
Applications
=> ↺ Linux Links ☛ Quod Libet – GTK+-based audio player
- The software is written in Python and published under an open source license.
- Quod Libet is cross-platform software. There are packages available for some of the major Linux distros, and if you’re running something else, we recommend using the available Flatpak. We tested the software exclusively in Linux with the Ubuntu and Manjaro distros.
- When installing packages using Ubuntu Software app or with the command line utilities such as apt or apt-get, packages are downloaded from one or more apt software repositories. An APT repository is a network server or a local directory containing deb packages and metadata files that are readable by the APT tools.
- You won’t find Quod Libet in Ubuntu’s default repositories. Instead, we can add the project’s Personal Package Archive (PPA). A PPA is a software repository designed for Ubuntu users.

=> ↺ 2 Methods to Install Eclipse IDE on Ubuntu 22.04 or 20.04 LTS
- Eclipse IDE (Integrated Development Environment) doesn’t need any introduction to those who are in programming. Because it is a well-known IDE in the open-source category for coding in various programming languages such as popular Java, C++, PHP, Python, and more…
- Its powerful code editor offers modern features like code completion and syntax highlighting, and refactoring tools to improve productivity and code quality. Some of the main features are Integrated Debugging, Build and Compilation Tools, Testing Frameworks, Version Control Integration, code templates, code navigation, and a huge community to support. Eclipse PHP Development Tools are suitable for beginners because there is no license fee to be paid.
Distributions and Operating Systems
=> ↺ Make Use Of ☛ The Top 7 Linux Server Distros for Enterprises and Small Businesses
- Linux is no longer an operating system limited to developers and individual users. As various Linux distributions continue to emerge regularly, thousands of new Linux users are mushrooming globally, finding ever-increasing use and purpose within the community.
- The latest to join the Linux bandwagon are enterprises seeking different stable and secure distributions to enhance their production cycles. Rest assured, with Linux by your side, you can always expect regular updates, top-notch security, and helpful functionality.
- Here are some of the best Linux distributions for enterprises and businesses.
New Releases
=> ↺ 9to5Linux ☛ Parrot OS 5.3 Ethical Hacking Distro Is Here with Linux Kernel 6.1 LTS
- Parrot OS 5.3 is the third installment in the Parrot OS 5 “Electro Ara” series, coming two and a half months after Parrot OS 5.2. The biggest change in this release is the implementation of a newer kernel, namely the long-term supported Linux 6.1 LTS series as a hefty upgrade from the Linux 6.0 kernel series used in the previous release.
- As you can imagine, this means that you should now be able to install Parrot OS on hardware where it wasn’t possible to do so before, mostly due to missing drivers. This is also good news for existing systems, which will get a well-deserved performance boost.
=> ↺ 9to5Linux ☛ Ubuntu-Based Freespire 9.5 Brings Custom GNOME UI to Resemble Windows 10’s Look
- Based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), the Freespire 9.5 (codename Black Balloon) release ships with a nice dark look for its default GNOME 42.5 desktop environment, which has been customized with various GNOME extensions to resemble the look and feel of the Windows 10 system, in an attempt to make Freespire more attractive for users who want to use Linux instead of Windows.
- In addition to this new look, Freespire 9.5 comes with improved security and reliability by shipping with all the latest updates from the upstream Ubuntu release as of May 5th, 2023, as well as fixes for various bugs and issues that were present in the previous releases from the Freespire 9.0 series, which launched with the Xfce desktop environment initially.
Canonical/Ubuntu Family
=> ↺ The Register UK ☛ You’ll [BZZ] like Intel’s [BZZ] NUC 13 Pro once the fan [BZZ] stops blowing
- The same chore took a respectable 11:00 flat in an Ubuntu VM under VMware Workstation Pro. Graphics-centric benchmarking tool CineBench produced a rating of 11461 – a very respectable result for a machine that lacks a dedicated GPU.
Devices/Embedded
=> ↺ CNX Software ☛ MediaTek Genio 1200 system-on-module powers Cortex-A78/A55 AIoT & robotics development kit
- ADLINK Technology’s SMARC 2.1 compliant LEC-MTK-I12000 system-on-module (SoM) features the MediaTek Genio 1200 octa-core Cortex-A78/A55 AIoT processor coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB UFS storage, and powers the I-Pi SMARC 1200 development kit designed for robotics and AIoT applications.
=> ↺ CNX Software ☛ NanoPC-T6 Arm Linux SBC offers dual GbE, HDMI 2.1 output, HDMI 2.0 input, 2x M.2 sockets, and more
- The NanoPi-T6 is like a more compact version of the Banana Pi BPI-W3 SBC, albeit with some differences like dual 2.5GbE and extra M.2 socket, but no support for USB PD and PoE. The documentation is also much better with detailed hardware information and instructions for the Android 12, Ubuntu 20.04/22.04, Debian 11, and OpenWrt-based FriendlyWrt images provided for the board.
- While you could install a heatsink by yourself, FriendlyELEC has also made an aluminum case measuring 114.5 x 86 x 30mm and weighing 394 grams with the board. The company’s own test shows the CPU temperature did not exceed around 62°C under load, against about 69°C with the NanoPi R6S in its own metal case. I suppose getting a larger board and enclosure does help with cooling. The NanoPC-T6 does throttle to 1400-1600 MHz without any cooling, so if you don’t get the metal enclosure, a heatsink is recommended.
