●● Microsoft Silver Lie Locks GNU/Linux Users Out of Italian Public TV, South African Government

Posted in America, Europe, Microsoft, Mono, Novell, Videos at 10:17 am by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

A reader from Italy alerted us last night that the “Italian television just got everything running on Silverlight.” This is a no-go area to GNU/Linux, which Italy purports to be embracing, so who is responsible for this tasteless choice of streaming technology that hardly gains traction or acceptance anyway? Is this merely incompetence or is it shenanigans?

Another story that was apparently pulled from Tectonic (South Africa-based publication) claimed inability to access a crucial public site, stating that: “Microsoft’s own Silverlight site prompts Linux users to download and install the open source alternative, Moonlight, on their computer as an alternative to Silverlight. Moonlight, however, is only compatible with Silverlight 1.0 and the SpeedServices website requires Silverlight 2.0.”

How typical. And because of Novell, Microsoft refuses to support GNU/Linux with a port of Silverlight. It explicitly said so to the press last year. Novell helps Microsoft make GNU/Linux a dysfunctional follower [1, 2]. █
