blocking by country - 2022-02-25

i started this process 2022-02-23.

my sites get very few hits from RU or BY other than the usual cracking that spews from the gangsters there. on my last server i had UA blocked for that very reason (eastern rather than UA proper was the problem afaik). this is not me doing much; i'm doing what i can for now.

cloudflare - free tier

• per domain

• Firewall

• Firewall Rules

• Create a Firewall rule

• Rule name: required - your choice

• complete the fields in the When incoming requests match...

• e.g. country, equals, Russian Federation

• select the action for the Then... Block

let me know if there is a quicker way to do this rather than each domain at a time.

nothing to do here so far unless i pay for the GeoDNS plan at 3 times the cost to me. i have just renewed a standard plan; for the effect that this will have on RU or BY i can't see the point in me paying more for now: so far.

today i asked cloudns if they may extend limited by country blocking rules to paying individuals and smaller organisations on lower service tiers. awaiting an answer.

server CSF firewall configuration

by country blocks are cpu and memory intensive. i have not yet noticed any site slowdowns after this configuration change.

• CC_DENY_PORTS=RU,BY

• CC_DENY_PORTS_TCP=21,80,443

• CC_DENY_PORTS_UDP=21,80,443

• Change button at the bottom of page

• Restart CSF/LFD when given the option after the change.
