bernina auto-threader spring issue and fix - 2021-12-08

so mi tiny bernina auto-threader spring came adrift from where it should have been; auto-threading fail!

to be honest i'd not even noticed it before; the auto-threader just worked, and well, until it didn't.

the spring was not broken and appeared to be just out of place. an internet search gave me pictures of how it should look, how to take off the auto-threader and put the auto-threader back.

• remove the foot, and needle.
• pull the auto-threader down off the shaft that it is mounted on. it pops off and it is easier to work on the auto-threader if it is off the shaft.
• use thin tweezers to put the tiny spring back where it should be.
• pop the auto-threader back on it's shaft.
• replace the foot and needle.

the auto-threader worked perfectly first time after the repair, as it usually does if everything is as it should be. i think that it is miracle these auto-threaders work at all lol.

bernina consider this (not inexpensive part) a consumable so it is not covered by warranty. i understand from a bernina dealer that the auto-threader tiny spring can move out of position and is a known issue. i think that it might be better if the spring was available separately from the rest of the auto-threader.
